not physic; not even psychic...just plain psychotic.

    moooohahahaha...

    not rly.

actually, a celeron d uses the same socket as the pentium d. the issue is whether your mobo would support the full fsb and (later) faster memory that a pentium d would use to run faster.

My mobo can support an 800 mhz fsb and 400 mhz ram.

Well, there ya' go then. That pentium d 915 would drop right in, run at full tilt, and you'd get better a faster computer overall, and a faster computer in processor-intensive games.

On the other hand, saving up for a Conroe would give you a better computer still...the question is whether or not the extra $200 on the processor alone (not to mention the need for a different mobo and ddr2 memory, unless you get one of a few that would let you migrate your ddr...but then you'd be missing out on some of the advantages of the upgrade...) would be worth it. My wallet tells me no, but I don't know what your wallet's opinion is.

        Told you I'm not psychic.

lol. Yea, i dont think i need a conroe, im already good with my celeron but i would like to upgrade sooner or later just to stay up to the days standards in processor and video card. I'm going to see if i can save up enough by christmas to use the money i saved and the money i get for christmas to get both the video card and the processor

keep in mind that anything including/above a 6600/x800 will need at least a 350W psu (more like 400W if you have a fully configured dual-core system). So you may need to save a little for a new power supply unit at the same time.

            Good luck.

alright, ill try to add that in too. I'll have to check what I have now as my psu, since I bought it already put together and i didnt look at that.
