Do i buy another 7900GTX to run in SLI

I was wondering is it really worth the upgrdae for another 7900GTX to run in SLI ?

    Rigg as follows

    AMD64 dual 4200+
    2Gb Mushkin Ram
    K8N SLI MOBO
    XGX 7900GTX

BF2 Runs at 70-100 FPS depending on players in the server .

I have done a little researxh in to DX10 and apart from Halo 2 and Crysis nothing seems to be on the horizon any time soon at all . In fact the last edition of PC fprmat is saying that DX10 will not be the main stream for another 1.5-2 years .

What should i do , spend the £300 on the card ? Will i see a big improvment on anything ?

well, getting another gfx card and put it on sli will let you put aa on super high. lol if you got a monitor that can support high res, u could even put it at 2560*1600. or use the dual link and get the matrox triplehead and spread your screen out on three monitors. you will be able to see more than any other player in game. quite a number of advantages in getting another gfx card i say.
some might say its overkill, but if u can afford it, y not right?

Well im not sure about the 3 screens but a better monitor sounds cool , My View Sonic only goes to 1200*1024

at this moment if u got 7900gtx sli'd it would be faster then quad sli w/ 7950's because the quad has bugs in it and most games dont take advantage of it yet. however you will be set for awhile w/ playing games that will be coming out in the future.

As i said i am of the honest opinion that DX10 will not feature heavily in new games till at laest another 1.5-2 years .

I just want to know how much better i will see things with 2 7900gtx?

well they say you never "double" the performance so its not going to be 2x faster at everything but they say anywhere from a 40-60% gain.

            read here http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...date/page4.asp
its more about quad sli but it will show u consistanly how 7900gtx is winning

The answer to your question is simple.

Re: Do i buy another 7900GTX to run in SLI

Why the hell does he need another one? SLI, especially with these very high-end GPU's, is meant to be used on very high resolutions, like 1920x1200 and up. Yes, there may not be many DX10 games soon, but the next generation of cards will still be much more powerful than the current generation. If you look at how well the 7800gtx does compared to the 6800 ultra, you will see that the 7800gtx runs just as well and even better than the 6800ultra. http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=8 This should be the same case with the new generation of cards coming out later this year.

So my suggestion is to save the money; you will not see any performance increase on such a small monitor and the money could be well spent on the next generation of GPU's.

As for the 7950gx2, it is a good card to get only if you have an absolutely huge monitor. Talking those 30" Dell monitors here, with a 2560x1600 resolution and AA enabled. That's where the 7950 pulls ahead.

If you plan on playin on a huge monitor at insane res's than Sli would be the way to go. If you plan on goin SLI just to try and improve your current 70-100fps frame rates, your wasting money. If you have that kinda money to burn pick up a couple of raptors. Those will hold their value longer than a gpu. if you already got some raptor hdd's go watercooled and overclock.

thats not showing 7900gtx in sli, nor is he wanting to get a 7950gx2 and 7900gtx sli's are still faster then 7950 and 7950 quad. he will gain performance, not a huge amount and the only thing making it better @ super high resolution is the size of memory th 1gb on 7950

er, that post was actually a bit off-topic. I saw some people saying that the 7950gx2 was a pointless card, and I pointed out that it isn't as long as you use high resolutions. My opinion on getting another 7900gtx for SLI is two posts above that one :)
And just for the record, yes there is a total of 1 gb of memory on the 7950gx2, but with how SLI works, it can really only use 512mb for textures and such. Each card needs its own set of textures. Same deal with two 7900gtx's in SLI.

Re: Do i buy another 7900GTX to run in SLI

Eagle I had two evga 7900 GTX's in SLI (I just pulled one out for a step-up to a 7950, I'm selling the other one) and to be honest... I don't see any difference between single or dual cards as far as performance goes.

I run 1600x1200, full/high everything, forced vsync too.

The only reason I'm going to the dual 7950 system is because I'm getting both new cards for almost nothing, I doubt I'm going to run any different (in bf2) than I do now (on a single 7900 GTX).

Honestly man, I would keep your card and maybe think about getting another monitor.
SLI really shines at high(er) resolutions; your current monitor would make a second card moot.
