I would like to put in a new card for my rigg and take away the on board side

Yeah that would be good if you can get it cheap. The biggest piece of advice I could give you is just stay away from OEM soundblasters as some times it can be really hard to get drivers for them. But that wont concren you if you get the AUDIGY 2.

x-fi is a little better, if your ear can tell the difference. I've got the audigy 2 zs (not pro = no i/o panel breakout box). I like it.
