Wait until Conroe is released and ask us. It will be a couple weeks.

3500?!?! My suggestion is dont spend all of it...you can get a decent rig for $1000 and WAIT for DX10 and Conroe (You'll have to wait a bit more for DX10) then when those come out, upgrade the rig you just bought...

Dang that's a lot of money for a computer. Wait till August when Conroe is out, and we see some proper benchmarks. I wouldn't advise getting a computer right now...

With $3500 you could buy a very decent gaming computer along with many other things. Get a nice monitor, speakers, keyboard, headset, and a few games.

Wait for DX10 and the new Intel Conroe to see if it's good. Until then:

BUILD YOUR COMPUTER. If you don't have the expertise, it's not that hard, buy a few parts and throw them together. Look at online guides and stuff. From my experience, building your computer will give you 2x or more performance for the same price.

Always look at benchmarks to see if you're getting something good for the price. And always make sure that you're not ripped off. I got ripped off buying my last card because in 3 months it dropped more than 400%! I know prices get cheaper but not that fast! I still want my money back Prices shouldn't drop that fast.

Buy a high end graphics card. Don't settle for the mid-end or low-end ones. (Of course wait for DX10)

Get 2GB of RAM at the very least. Vista will support 4GB+, so make sure you get a motherboard that supports that much so you can upgrade! RAM is probably the best gaming upgrade, other than the graphics card.

Don't get Vista once it first comes out, wait until the major problems are fixed. Then I suggest dual booting it with XP because of the compatibility issues.

Battlefield 2 DOES work with Vista and DX10, you just need to reinstall it under Vista.

Keep a Linux LiveCD handy (Free, except for the CD you need to burn it to). This could REALLY, REALLY help as it can fix ALL viruses, and almost every single problem that could occur with Windows. It may also help with Windows installation problems.

I wouldn't spend a load on a video card just yet. Put about $500 aside for a DX10 compatible card and just buy something that will get you by for now like a 7600 GT.
