well, the 3500+ perfectly fit my budget, along with my other parts, so i guess conroe is out of the question for me, and I still don't believe they will be ready all that soon, i kinda want a comp to play on within the next week haha.

Understandable. There are people that are waiting for Conroe (I know a guy on a legacy system, waiting for it to come out) but if its out of your budget, thats fine.

As for availibility, believe it.

pretty much $1300 including tax and shipping. And I don't doubt that conroe will be available when intel says it will, it's just that my previous computer died and I need a new one fast. So far for $1300 ive got this

@ The OP the system you got is fine, and will be very nice for many more years... however you did limit your upgrade options down the line, and screwed yourself out of some extra performance if you had waited 1 more month for Conroe/Am2 systems.

The worst Conroe there is will probably annihilate a 4200, but thats not the point. The most important factor is that Conroe will likely offer superior value for money as likely AMD cant drop prices enough to compete. Having said that if you want something cheaper than the cheapest Conroe, AMD is still a better choice than a P4/Celeron.

Depends on which model, the 4200+ is 2.2ghz, the conroe E6300 (worst of all conroes) should still beat it, it's dual core, and it's 1.83 ghz, but add 20% to the ghz for all conroes, in this case, the 20% adds to about 2.23ghz total, and it has a larger L2 cache.

Multiply by 30%, not 20%.

1.86Ghz Conroe x 1.3 = 2.418Ghz Athlon 64 (Dual Core).
