Odds are the pin he broke was a ground pin, he should try and boot the comp up before he freaks out. Alot of the pins are redundant and serve no purpose because the socket was overengineered with extra unused pins.

I didn't have time to read more than a handful of posts in that thread. I know the run down for fixing a broken CPU and this was the first thing that game to mind, hence why I initially thought the thread was not funny.

I dont feel sorry for him at all.

If my parents paid $500 for that CPU and I broke because I didnt take 5 minutes to read how to install it, they would beat the **** out of me.

If he spent his entire summer mowing lawns like I did to make money, he sure as hell woulda taken a few minutes to read how to install it.
