Right now, the only chipset that Conroe will work with is the 975 chipset revision 304 or something like that. The 965 chipset motherboards are supposed to be released with Conroe. I believe they are supposed to take place of the 945 chipset mobos, which are about $120-$150. Nvidia is also coming out with 570 and 590 chipset mobos around Conroe's launch. They should be about the same price as the 570 and 590 mobos out for AM2 now.

Oh, thank god they are releasing 965 mobos, 975 is way too expensive.

Yar. Thank you for clarification. I stand corrected.
I still stand by my statements. I'm camping on my hardware until they release a (or an "effective" comparable to what I have now) 6.0ghz processor that I can couple with a (brand/chipset impartial) 1ghz core/3ghz memory gpu compatible with a motherboard that I can recycle my nice eide hd into...

        ...for less than a grand.

          Indeed.

          Some info on ATi's RS600 and RD600 Conroe-compatible chipsets.
          RS700.

Prices are at the bottom of the articles. RS700 motherboards are supposed to cost under $100.

          Dream on.

          P.S. - The Conroe Extreme Edition X6800, running at 2.93Ghz, is comparable to a 6.0Ghz Pentium 4.

You won't need DX10 for a couple years (according to matdef), and you can get a different version of Vista that runs on DX9.

Just a side question...So will Crysis REQUIRE a DX10 card?

Or would it run on something like a 7600 GT with 2 gigs of RAM?

I know at the moment they are using two 7900XT(X)'s ? andthey are getting some lag.. so i dont know what it will be like, but i think you will be able to use DX9 cards, just dont get all the eye candy.

I think what he meant was the 1900xtx. I heard they were using the 1900xtx in crossfire at E3, but I have no idea what resolution...
