Future products (Conroe and DX10) opinons?

Well I was thinking today that it would be more logical to wait for better components to come out rather than buying right now, as some have mentioned in different threads. So this is what I was going to go with until I thought about just saving some cash and waiting:

MSI K9N Platinum Socket mobo (socket AM2)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 512K Per core (socket AM2)
    Shin-Etsu Thermal grease
Thermaltake AMD preferred Option Heatsink cooler
    DDR2 (800) 6400 2GB (2pcs 1GB) OCZ Platinum XTC
    Raptor HD 74gb 10,000RPM
    ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900XT (was going to oc it)
    Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550W

However I feel like it will be outdated in a couple of months when DX10 + Conroe come out. So I have come to you guys to ask you a couple of questions:

-Obviously Conroe and DX10 cards will blow this system away...but by how much?

-Havent followed Conroe as much but can someone give me a basic overview on its specs possibly the "final" price?

-I want to run future games such as Cell Factor and Crysis (and if you havent seen those games...please check them out ) at high high full settings. What do you think I will probably need to get, remember price is not going to be a factor mainly because I will be waiting and not building a system yet. (just a guess would be great).

-Who else will be building a system with Conroe/DX10 or some other combo with DX10 cards?

-However, AMD prices are being slashed but I really think that when DX10 cards come out as well as Conroe I believe that combo will completley blow out the computer I spec'd out.

-Any final suggestions would be great

(edit) - Also vista will be coming out, any opinons on that?

    Thanks everyone.

Do a search on my name and Conroe. You'll find out more than you wanted. I don't feel like typing all that again. If you have specific questions, number them and I'll answer them.

Prices are (estimated, not per 1000):

      C2D E6300 2MB-L2 (1.86Ghz) - $209.
      C2D E6400 2MB-L2 (2.13Ghz) - $239.
      C2D E6600 4MB-L2 (2.40Ghz) - $309.
      C2D E6700 4MB-L2 (2.66Ghz) - $529.

            Thanks everyone.
New generations of graphics cards perform much, much better than the last generation. Take a lookie at the very highend 6000 series card (6800 Ultra) to the new (well, not so new now) very high-end 7000 series card, the 7800gtx. http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=8
As far as a new CPU generation, it's not going to make that huge of a difference. It is great and all that Conroe will bring better price/performance than Intel's current Netburst architecture and AMD's K8 architecture, but most current games are limited by the GPU, not the CPU. If you do find a game that's limited by the CPU, then it probably looks like poop and you're gonna be getting over 100fps with any current CPU. So a new generation of GPU's is fantastic for gamers, but we're not going to see great performance increases with new CPU's.
As far as pricing for Conroe, here's a nice diagram. The Conroes are the E6000 series and the extreme edition Conroe is the X6800 at the top.
I don't know what you will need to play Crysis nicely, but I'm betting a mid or high-end GPU from the next generation.
I'm going to be upgrading to a new GPU later this year for Crysis if it's needed, but I'm going to hold off on getting a Conroe unless all that physics is really CPU-intensive.
As for vista, I'm going to hold off on that too. I realize that Crysis is the first DX10 game and everything, but all the movies and screenshots we have seen at this point are in DX9, which looks pretty fantastic just like that. Plus, Vista is bound to be very buggy at its initial release.

Re: Future products (Conroe and DX10) opinons?

DX10 cards will really only blow away cards that are dx9, in DX10 games. DX10 is ONLY for vista, and i dont know if you should wait or not, if you have a decent system already I would probably. dx10 cards should be coming out soon (not THAT soon, but soon) as I heard Crysis will be coming out around janurary (excpet vista got delayed, so who knows).

Re: Future products (Conroe and DX10) opinons?

Wow thanks for the response. Yeah I look back at 6600GT's compared to the 7series and it just blows it away in different areas.

However I will have the money to build a fantastic computer and I just want the best combo. I have never had an AMD processor and have been suited will Intel my whole entire life. But those prices compare to the 4800+ and i've read that they blow it away.

Any more opinons or facts would be great.

Edit: I just searched and found out that the E6700 is on performing par or better with the FX-62...can someone elaborate this?

Edit #2: I can wait. Im not in rush :) And from the facts im getting...i see that it will probably dominate. (another plus side...i have a **** computer...really ****ty...like realllllly ****ty...probably ****t..ok i'll stop but thing is I will probably just stay put with this AGP POS and wait...and wait..but overtime I will probably have enough money to build a crazy computer) I realize that there may be delays but im ready and not in a rush :)

Thanks for the replies. I want to wait, but one side of me is telling me to go AM2 right now ..i'll probably wait

Re: Future products (Conroe and DX10) opinons?

You gotta remember that DX10 cards are also a new generation. DX10 vs. DX9 or not, the new cards WILL blow away the older generation. And DX9 cards won't be able to run DX10 features, so there's really no point in comparaing the two. DX10 has a sort of infinite lead in that area, since DX9 won't even be compatible. And don't count on DX10 on XP, it won't happen, and it CAN'T happen. DX10 needs various subsystems found only in Vista.

Joking? A E6400 is performing on par or better than the FX-62. I told you, search.

                  EDIT: Here, I searched for you. There is a lot more that I've written over the last 2 weeks or so, but here's a tidbit;

There is absolutely no way that any K8-based processor is going to come close to the Conroe. Benchmarks have showed a 1.86Ghz Conroe being better than a X2 4800+, and a 2.13Ghz Conroe matching a FX-62 in performance. The processors are $183 and $224 (per 1000 units), respectively. No matter what kind of "up to 50%" price drops AMD makes on it's Dual Core processors, only the X2 3800+ would be cheaper than the Conroe. And the X2 3800+ is a sad performer when compared to the Core 2 Duo series.

Re: Future products (Conroe and DX10) opinons?

I'm sitting on what I've got (p4 3.0e, x800xt AIW, 2x512MB for the time being). I suggest anyone who isn't fabulously wealthy do the same. If history is any judge:

                      Vista will have bugs.

The first gen of the DX10 cards will be buggy.

If everyone starts buying Conroe, then AMD's will make their best products loss leaders in order to keep volume, and Intel will reciprocate after some time.

Also, 64-bit optimized software is still mostly mythware (Windows excepted).

                      and

DX10 optimized software is also mostly mythware (Vista excepted).

And as other have hinted at, there will probably be no games that a high end, last gen (6600 and up, x800 and up) won't be able to run for the next couple of years.

But why wait two years? The oober-leet upgraders will be dumping their x1900's and 7900's on ebay as soon as they can pay $500 to enroll as guinea pigs into M$/nVidia's/ATI's big DX10 experiment. The chain retailers will follow this trend.

Don't pick 'em up now. Pick 'em up cheap in eight months, after the oober-leet upgraders get visited by Santa Claus.

Whoa, according to price chart, the E6300 is gonna be 183 bucks at launch, that may just be cheap enough for me to buy if S939 is out by mid august.

$183 per 1000 units. Expect around $200 actual.

Its not always higher though. Look at what Ross @ OC Forums predicted for the E6600. $309 from $316.

Well, add on about one more month (mid august), and hopefully the prices will go into range. So you say... a E6300 will be around the performance of a 4600+? If so, it's worth the money lol. Also, the compatiable mobos are like Intel 975series only, right, and they are REALLY expensive right now...
