The prices go from $236.29 (us) to a whopping $1,200.00. I really like the price on that E6400 though.

THe name of the proccessor seems like it would be for laptops though. As y'know, the new line of core duo laptop dual core processors. Now they just named the new processors core 2 duo, so still sounds like laptop name hehe. Looks like Intel FINALLY dropped the Pentium name.

But I really liked the Pentium name, I remember the first computer I used was a P1.

When i was still a kid, my dad had one of those really old things, can't even remember the name, it was even before the pentium name came along. But yea, i used to have a pentium (just pentium, not pentium 2 or anything), then i had a pentium 3 laptop (dell), then i got 2 old P4 computers.

                  Well ****, I just pre-ordered the 6600.
                  To quote OCUK staff:
" After having meetings with Intel this morning and been the first UK company to actually give Intel and their distributors orders for Intel latest processor we are now able to offer them on sale at OcUK.

Product is expected to arrive approx middle of July 2006.

As OcUK is the first company to place orders we get priority allocation which means OcUK will not only be the first with product but will also have more product availability than anywhere else in the UK/Europe."
I will wait a while to choose motherboard and ram as there arent many mobo options right now and I am still undecided what ram I want although it will likely be pc6400.

You guys should bare in mind that we pay higher taxes over here, and since the average wage is higher here also we just get charged more because we can afford it . So anyway it will probably be cheaper in america.

                  Also from OCUK
                  " I've ordered 1000 E6600 units!
OcUK is the first UK company to place orders with Intel so we should do quite well and easily get stock first and good quantity. "

Same socket, but you need to have either a 975 or a 965 series mobo for it to work. Sorry, but it's not gonna work in your dell.

Thought it was gonna have a whole new socket too, oh well, lucky for guys that have compatiable intel boards.

That number isn't as high as you think.

There is currently only one mobo that supports Conroe available, it is the so-called intel bad-axe motherboard and only a very recent revision supports Conroe, so the vast vast majority of current mobos will NOT support Conroe. I believe that in terms of intel chipsets it is either the 975x or 965 chipset that is required.
