Yes that's a well know fact that MatDef surely knows. It lowers the command rate to 2T, then depending on the revision of the CPU, will downclock the RAM to 333Mhz.

I know it, from personal experience if nothing else.

I did tell him several times not to get that ram, and to get a 2x1gb kit, but he ignored me (just look in his original thread asking for help building a computer).

i was looking at buyin an x2 3800+ also, how do u know that the price is going to drop down that much, cause thats great news for me:)

it's dropping in price because they are discontinuing it. I don't know how much more it will drop but it's pretty cheap right now and I hear they are great for OCing if you're into that.

No they're not, the procs with the 1mb l2 cache are. The prices are dropping to compete with intel's conroe.

what he said. even the Creative rep that was at the store last week recommended that one to me until he found out I use the USB headphones. he said it's really nice and will make a big difference.

oh, also Danny, well and Sir, you might want to read up on the AMD processors and RAM. I just found this out, but if you put 4 sticks of RAM in the motherboard it will actually slow down the RAM. I ended up buying two 1Gb sticks and it jumped from 188Mhz to 200MHz without doing anything else. you can DL a program called CPU-Z that will show you all the speeds if you don't have it yet.

i know i was going to do that i just did not have enough money at the time it was cheaper to get 4 and mine run at 167.5 mhz

oh damn. so the 3800 will still be around? I might have to get me one of those for my work computer then.

yeah I did the same dumb thing. but then I ended up playing around with overclocking my machine so I had to get new RAM anyway. I really need to find a cheap hobby for a change. maybe bug collecting...

plus i got 15863 from 3dmark 03 so its not all bad

plus i got 15863 from 3dmark 03 so its not all bad

p.s. my new x1900xt is coming on monday :)

FYI noone uses 3dMark03 anymore. If you want to compare to anyone else you need to use 05 or 06.

well they're at $297.00 rite now at newegg.com, so if they drop to 170$ by the end of july thats great, cuz i dont need one until the beginning of september so maybe they'll be even lower

and wat are they making to compete with the conroe?

there's a thread in here someplace about the reverse hyperthreading. that's what they are usign to compete with the conroe. which looking at reviews that compare the 2.6Ghz conroe with the FX60 they are really close. both had their good games and their bad games. I don't know what the price if though on that intel chip so that is probably where it really beats the AMD.

dump the speakers and sound card. use the built in speakers (you won't have a sub woofer if that matters?) and the on board sound and then get this video card.

and I'd like to stick with NVIDIA no matter what... but anything above the 7600 GT seems like to much for now so I'll stick with this one..

Ok... so both the monitor and motherboard chosen have speakers/on board sound
I don't expect anything amazing but they both should work together decently right?

well, onboard sound, built in speakers. u are fine with sound. hmm, i didnt know there were so many problems with the 7900gt perhaps its from a particular vendor: eVGA?
