And we thought we were running in Ultra High sound...

Us SB X-Fi users that is! In fact, up until now, we haven't been running Ultra High sound at all. It only sounded a bit better because of the settings set in your sound consolde (crystaliser, bass boost, etc.). Ultra High hasn't been actually running until now, until Creative had released the "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series Beta Driver with OpenAL support" on May 30th.

Whose changelog contains this specific addition:

    For Battlefield 2™
Allows the Ultra-High Audio setting in a multi-player game

    For Battlefield 2 (version 1.12)
Allows you to hear audio from speakers when the X-Fi audio driver option is selected
I always thought I had been running Ultra-High with my X-Fi xtrememusic, guess not! To my surprise, after having installed these new beta drivers, the sound in REAL Ultra-High is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Everything sounds so much more detailed and realistic. Haven't tried all the weapons, but DAO-12 sounds MUCH more fiercer, as well as the tank cannon fire, pistols, heck when I think about it, everything. Everything just sounds much more crisper, sharper and lethal. I highly suggest anyone who has an X-Fi to get the patch right now! And for those who are major BF2 enthusiasts, get the X-Fi hehe.

    For XtremeMusic owners:

    For Fatality owners:

    For Platinum owners:

    For Elite Pro owners:

No, I wasn't hired by Creative hehe. Just really impressed by this massive change. Good thing we weren't left in the dark *too* long I guess... Long live Ultra-High sound setting!

hmm, interesting thank you. someone posted the drivers b4, but not this specific info.
except the fact that, I used to play on high settings with my nforce 4 integrated sound, and when I went to Ultra High with my new x-fi, it sounded a trillion times better. and everyone on this forums who has one agrees there is a HUGE difference, so I dont know if this makes a difference but I am going to try it out,

Hey Sack I've got a nForce4 did you ever have cracking in your headset? I've no clue how to get rid of it.

What are your in-game sound settings? It needs to be on software and low or medium detail.

umm, when I used my nforce 4 integrated sound, with the nvidia audio chipset drivers, I played at Hardware settings, on High, with EAX and I got perfect fps...

Wasn't talking about FPS, was talking about crackling sound.

Thats nice to know I paid 90 bucks for ultra high when in fact I was never getting it. Ill try these out, I dont have high hopes though. Creative drivers suck and this is beta.

I installed this and can no longer start BF2, thank you creative.

Edit* I should have expected this with a beta driver

I never ran Ultra high anything in BF2 since it doesn't help at all.

I reinstalled BF2 again and it worked. It didnt sound that much better, but it sounded as if there was more stuff going on at once.

Its probably all in our heads, only because we are acutally looking for a difference.
