which one of these is better? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Subcategory=48

I am thinking about the XFX Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card, but i have heard that THE BOX STATES THE CARD REQUIRES A 450W PSU, not the 300W PSU Newegg states, and not the 250W i have

umm, what is this automerged doublepost thingy?

Any of those will be ok.

Automerged doublepost means you posted 2 posts in a row and it merged them. Just as the name would imply...

So i can use a XFX Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card that recommends 450W, probably uses a power connector directly off the PSU, with my 250W?

I've yet to see any proof that they say they need more than the 300W listed on all of the 6800Xts on newegg.

Re: GeForce 6200OC Video Card, 8x AGP, 256MB DDR

ok, ok, I heard in the dell support forums that "Dell underrates its power supply to mean the average and the peak power to our stock 250 is around 345 watts." Now all I need to know is to decide between the BIOSTAR Geforce 6800XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814141026 and the XFX Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150157

Anybody have suggestions, sure the Biostar one has more memory, but its core clock is lower and its memory is GDDR2, not GDDR3 like the XFX, im not sure how much of a difference that makes, someone help please?

              XFX... 512MB on a 256bit interface is a waste.

Didn't I say dell powersupplies wern't bad, and it would be fine.... I seem to remember saying that earlier...

Good choice. XFX is a pretty good company and I think you will be happy with your buy. Like said before, the card is probably gonna slide right underneath your RAM. Its gonna be really close, but I think you can manage with some easing in.

You can change the PSU in dell systems just as easy as others i have done it with no problems on 5 different dell sytems.

So go buy a new PSU 450watt at least then get a new Graphics card other wise you will always struggle with grap cards and you might find a new PSU will give your comp better performance

Ok, i got the card todayWhen I installed the graphics card and started my PC it seems as if my computer does not see it, or the onboard graphics controller. The moniter stays in standby, but if I take out the graphics card, and use the onboard, or a my crappy, it works. ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE?

Go into your bios by holding the "delete" key during startup. Disable the onboard video and/or enable the AGP slot.

Tried that, still didn't work, i looked at the diagnostic lights on the back of my dell, and found out that they are saying a possible video card failure has occured, i think its the card

                            If you can:

Use your credit card, drive to Wal-Wart, and "borrow" a replacement card to check and make sure. Then (of course) return the card; wal-wart takes everything back. Or, "borrow" the card from any brick-and-mortar company that doesn't impose a restocking fee.

It is unusually (though certainly not impossible) that a gpu would show up from a distributor DOA.

i thinki its the card, i tried a different video card and it worked

I'm chatting with a XFX technician, and so fas this is what they said

[Christopher McKinley - 06/28/2006] When I installed the graphics card and started my PC it seems as if my computer does not see it, or the onboard graphics controller. The moniter stays in standby, but if I take out the graphics card, and use the onboard, or a different graphics card, it works

[SHANNON - 06/28/2006] Dear BATOSI ,Hi, thanks for your message and sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your product. Before installing the new GPU, was the onboard video disabled? If not, this can cause a conflict. I also noticed your power supply is rated at 345watts. The recommended wattage for the XFX 6800 XTreme is 450 watts. Also is the fan on the GPU spinning and is it plugged into a power supply? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks,Shannon

[BATOSI - 06/28/2006] Im not sure how you disable it, I had it set to auto, when I put in a different nvidia card, it used that, so I assumed the same thing would work for this card. Yes the fan on the GPU is spinning and is plugged in to a power supply, the place where I bought if from said that the minnimum was 300 watts. Also the lights diagnostic lights on the the back of my Dell said that a possible video card failure has occured

Hmm. First, go to your post and delete your name. No reason to be identifiable on the 'net.

Second, yeah. It sounds like a bad card if you plugged in a working replacement. The PSU really shouldn't matter (up to a point). My card says it requires a 350W PSU, but I'm running 4xeide devices (2 hd, 2 optical drives), 2 PCI devices (one of which is pushing a third SATA hd), a p4 3.0E space heater, and an x800xt AIW. I'm running an antec 380W, but Dell puts half-way decent power supplies in their PC's, so I'm guessing it ain't the PSU.

Sorry guy. Call the distributor and have them do a swap for you. EDIT: FOR MY BEING A SLACKER AND FOR MY NOT READING THE WHOLE THREAD AGAIN, DISREGARD WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SUGGEST(Or, return it and save for a 6600 series--gt preferably--if you want to see BF2 really fly.)
