if you are going to go intel, and can afford it, wait for Conroe Core Duo, SUPER powerful, so much more of a beast.

It's a new processor coming out from Intel, with a new architecture that is far superior to the netburst of today’s Pentium 4s.

The offiicial release date is July 23, but it could be much longer until you can get ahold of one.

              Cheap. IIRC starting around $120.

I dont know if the 120$ will be as good as the 3ghz dual core, I dont know. But I can say they are MUCCHHHH btter, and for maybe 300$, or 250$, it will blow the dual core away. MAYBE even the 120$ is better. Im at school, and they block tomshardware.com, so i cant check the benchmarks.

I would wait for conroe. Even if the conroe CPUs dont fit your needs AMD might do something with thiers that will.

Said it again in a similar thread. I am an AMD fan but as long as i can find something VALUEABLE for my pocket i ll take it. But Conroe is not just valuable as long as PRICE concered. Intel's new CPU really has no opponent (for ppl like us who like to overclock their pieces "a bit") right now. At least benchmarks and review from all over the world prove that.

Keep your money until release day...

                              Re: My New Computer Plans

A Netburst dual core is pretty much a joke for video gaming.
Also that case/PSU makes me want to hurt myself. You should really consider something better. For cheapness an Antec SUPER LANBOY is a nice case

For a PSU you MUST get something half decent or you can do bad things such as reduce the lifespan of your PC or even damage it permenantly!
There is no possible way to spend less than $50 on a PSU and it not be pretty crappy. Better I think to aim for $100 and get something that will LAST you. The PSU/case combo along with the drives maybe is the one thing that will last you through several builds so dont skimp on it.
As a minor point for a HD I would choose this:

just because it will be a little quieter without being any slower.
