You mean the 965 chipset? Conroe-compaitble motherboards aren't likely to come out that much sooner than Conroe. A week earlier, at the most. Anything you buy right now, or even in the next 30 days won't be compatible with Conroe.
If he buys anything other than a Conroe right now, it will be a waste of money, as the base Conroe is $183 and is close enough to the FX-60's performance to scare AMD.
I realize that, just throwing out options, we don't know how "avaliable" conroe will be for internet peons, Dell and other OEM's might be getting the first few batches for all we know.
Yes, thats a good point, but Intel's manufacturing capacity is far superior to AMD's. Intel has, what, 7 manufacturing plants? AMD has 2, and one's getting old. Even with the 25% of shipments that are going to be Conroes, Intel should be putting out more than enough processors. You're right though, Dell and OEM's might be getting them first. We shall see.
