Will I be able to replace with RDRAM with regular ram?

Well 4x 256 ram sucks and I have been wanting to make a small ram update. I wanted to get 2gb of G-skill ram but IDK if it will work with my current ram slot now. So is this possible? thanks for the help :)

as far as i know you can only use RDRAM with the older P4 motherboards

No it won't. If you want to change to PC3200 (or any other speed of DDR for that matter), you will first need to get a new motherboard. While RD-Ram and DDR may both have the same pin count, the PCB for each is different.

I once spent $200 on 512mb RD RAM Just so i could play bf2

Now, for 200 bucks, you can get 2 gigs of pc3200, and a p4 mainboard to support it. This sounds duanting to the novice, but this is one of the easiest upgrades you can perform.

You cant upgrade you ram. What you should do is sell the ram off on a hardware forum or ebay. Some people will pay a pretty penny for RDRAM.

Use the savings to build a new system, or move to a dual channel DDR based motherboard. A i865 based system wouldnt be much money.

You see if I didn't have to spend 600 bucks for a new mobo, ram, processor I would upgrade. Maybe at the end of this year or next I will build a totally new system.

Why do you have to spend $600?

A used or refurb i865 mobo is probably less than $60, and 2GB of DDR PC3200 is about $140 bucks.

Could someone reccommend me a good Mobo that has agp 8x, some good 2gb of ram, and a cheap processor that is in between cheap & gaming. thanks I'm trying to keep the price under 350 US.

You really should be taking the advice given.

You say you now have a budget of >$350...added to the sales of your current hardware + a litle extra savings will yeild an entire new comp.

Throwing money at the system you currently have will be like peeing into the wind.

see, what you could do, is keep your current processor and reuse it in the new mobo and RAM. That way you won't have to buy a new one.

Ok I am just going to wait till the end of the year to build a whole new computer. grr slow ram :P
