Re: BF2 on an Intel Mac Mini
I need to add an addendum....
I just tried BF2 on "High" settings (everything turned up, no anti-aliasing) at 1360x1024 @ 75Hz and it was actually quite playable...
The FPS was a little lower than the medium setting, hanging around the mid 30's and dropping into the 20's from time to time - but it wasn't so bad that I felt it really impeded my performance.
My guess is that if you used the second monitor output on the back and hooked up a nice little 17" monitor with a native resolution of 1024x768, it would probably be quite beautiful... although that kind of defeats the purpose of buying that pretty new iMac with the 20" display...
It's been mentioned twice now in this thread that apple turns down the clock speed of their video cards. I'm not sure what the clockspeed of the X1600 is supposed to be, but right now mine's sitting at 398 core speed and 396 memory speed...
I have a feeling that if theyr'e downclocked it's to prevent overheating in this small form factor case... I'd almost be afraid that I could overheat my card if I turn them up.
EDIT:
I just spent the last hour reading about other people's experiences overclocking their iMac/MBP and it would seem the MBP runs safely at 430/470 (core/memory) while the iMac can run safely around 495/545.
I'm really scared of overclocking, but I might try 430/470. If the laptops are running that safely (and are geting over 2,000 3DMarks) then the iMac should be able to handle it with no problem.
