BF2 on an Intel Mac Mini

Hey, I've been dying to get a mac for several years now and Ive finally come into enough money. I thought about the mac mini because it is cheap and I have an amazing monitor I could put it on. Please tell me, with the below specs, if id be able to run BF2 and if so, how well would it run, graphics/speed wise?

-Intel Mac Mini 1.66 ghz
-2GB 667 DDR2 Ram'
-100 GB Harddrive
-Intel GMA950 graphics card

If this doesnt cut it, would you recommend I wait another year or so for a 20" iMac with the works? (2 gig ram/256 meg gpu/250 gb hd)

uhm i dont think the built in graphics can handle BF2, and if you wait another year BF2 will be out of fashion :p

if you hav a PC capable of playing bf2 at the moment, i guess you can wait, however Mac's are mainly used to graphic/video design not really a gaming machine hence why some of their packages are really gamer freindly only ones somewhere near that are the more expensive range, its your own choice you are the one spending the money

The mac mini is equivalent to a really low powered laptop. Your games will run, but at absolute lowest settings and extremely low FPS.

Same goes for the Macbook. The Macbook Pro and iMac have better integrated graphics, I believe ATI cards, and they will be able to run the game fairly well.

Remember Macs dont use mystical hardware anymore, they are 100% the same as PCs. The mac mini is a POS for games, no debate there.

You can try, it won't look pretty, but it'll run. The newer intel imacs, I have a friend whos running the game better than I am

Yeah but in a year Bf3 (for all we know) will be out and then youll need an even more powerful set up.. Stick w/ what you got.. if your happy w/ it. And if you have the extra money still buy the minimac. They might not be great at gaming but theyre pretty good at other stuff too that Windows might not be.

BF2 will not run on the intel 950 "Extreme graphics"... If you wan't to play games then a PC is what you should get. I would not recomend a Mac to anyone no matter what they would do.

I must disagree on that. 20 inch iMacs with 2 gigs of RAM and the 256 mb card can run BF2 on the highest settings possible on the highest res possible.

I have an ok PC for gaming for now so do you think it'd be worth it to get a pretty good mac mini to hold me over till my graduation when Ill hopefully get a 20 inch iMac?

Keep in mind im going to be a sophomore next year, I make $1000 a summer, i only have $500 in the bank, and I still need a car.

Advice please? :) Sooner I can get my hands on a mac the better! :laugh:

PS: Mac mini will be 1.66 ghz duo with 1 gig ram and 80 gig hd ($977) and probably used for multimedia/schoolwork

PSS: Another option would be to buy a cheap HP that is better than my current PC.

I like those but they are way out of my price range. Easier to go with an iMac.

No it won't. Don't know where you got your info at but it's wrong.

The best card available is a x1600 256MB. Which will not run on all high at max res.

See above, it's not integrated, its a x1600, howver it won't run on all high. Unless it's 640x480 res.

That's the best joke I've heard all day. Like jimmy said, a downclocked x1600 will not be running all high, and certainly not at the native res of the monitor. If you want to play games, don't get a mac.

For Gaming: HP Computer (~$1300-$1400):
Intel Pent D Dual Core 3.0 ghz
x1600XT 256 mb
2 gigs RAM
160 gig hd

For Multimedia/Schoolwork: Mac Mini ($977):
Duo 1.66 ghz
1 gig RAM
80 gig HD

I'm thinking HP first then Mac for graduation. Thoughts please?
