GeForce FX 5500 :(

Hi there!

Some time ago some parts in my computer got broken, and therfor I'm sitting here with a new mobo, new graphic card (Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 256MB) and the same processor (AMD Athlon 64 3000+). Before I had a 3DClub RADEON 9550 (128MB), and I could run BF2 on low and some medium.

When I instead got this new graphics card with 256MB I thought that I could run BF2 on higher settings, but NO, it seems as if this new card is crappier than the old one! Can this be true? Is there anything I can do?

I have the same exact card. I run all low with view distance 100%. Anything more and I lag.

first off ( dunno is they updated the list or not) that card [the 5500] is not supported for bf2, though it will still work. having mroe memory doesnt necessarily mean its better, it depends on the chip and sometimes the speeds too.

the 5500 is in between plain old worse, and considerably worse than the old one. I would suggest probably upgrading if you don't like the current settings you have to play at

Yup. It's not so good for BF2. Unfortunately I'm limited in that I have PCI slots, so it's the best I can do without more upgrading.

i have a card like that ATI RADEON XPRESS 200(only runs on Low Quality) thats why i have made a thread about building a new compuer check it out.
As for the card you should update it. Nobody wants to play on Low Quality.

Will I win anything on overclocking it?

Which cards do you recommend (I think I'm also limited to PCI and PCI express) wich are good and don't cost waaaaaaay too much...

if you have PCIe, there are plenty of low to mid range video cards for you.

Are you sure youve got a PCI exress slot? PCI and PCI exress are two totally different things.

Your probably not going to get anything from overclocking a PCI card, the bandwith is always holding you back.

If you had a 9550 it is highly highly unlikely that you have PCI express. On the other hand I find it hard to believe you have an A64 machine with only pci slots, I am not even sure a 9550 was released for PCI, however I am certain it isn't on PCI express.

How do I know, though, if my graphics card is PCI express or PCI?

BTW, is this some kind of bug, coz my FPS can't go higher than 15fps, it can go under but not over that...

EDIT/ I've now figured out that the card is PCI express. Should I just upgrade?

Yea I had that card before my 6800gs and even with everything on low I lagged on certain maps ie. sharqi, dalian. The only map that card can do good on is Karkand. That card is below borderline and you should upgrade when i can ASAP. Do u have a PCI only MOBO?

my old FX5200 ran BF2 on medium without a prob, so u should be fine
