Anything running in the background is gonna cause u lag while playing a game such as bf2... I just use the built in windows firewall as a safeguard, My main firewall is in my LinkSys Router....nothing has ever gotten past that and set off my windows firewall so it seems pretty safe, and the way i figure it, let my router handle the blocking so my PC can handle the gaming :)

Also try downloading Lavasoft AdAware Personel, Its free and is updated almost daily with all the new spyware definitions. Run that about once a week or more if you seem to get alot of crap

u dont use Anti virus firewall like norton ,mc afe?just a hardware firewall like my nvidia one? and windows right?

After trying virtually all freeware firewalls I've found Kerio 2.1.5, the last full freeware (from 2002) the best and most suitable for me. It's free, its light, simple and reliable. In the other words, all I need. And yes, it's secure (never had any problems with security).

The nVidia firewall is a great idea, unfortunately hardware firewall combined with mobo doesn't work. As Rub-UFS- said, it may cause problems.

None of the above. If you have a correctly configured hardware device (router)out in front of your PC then you don't really need a software firewall. I've been without software firewalls on my desktop and server for years without any ill effects.

I'd reccommend Outpost Firewall Pro, it's very easy to use, uses low system resources(under 10mb), and comes with a good anti-spyware

Zone Alarm is horrible for games--Tons of games have issues with it-I use Black Ice

Bitdefender has too much crap. The firewall has to use about 6 startup programs to work. The AV is alright, it didn't pick up any of the viruses I had on my computer. Kaspersky IMO is top notch, much better that bitdefender.
