Whoa, whats overcl9ocked on your PC? I can't even get that sort of FPS, and I'm working on a much more powerful video card. Is everything stock? I mean, my CPU is much stronger than yours, and I cant' even get any AA in there. Hows yopur dynamic lighting and shadows?

What are you using to test that FPS? Single player? Or online 64 man server?

Ok, my video card is slightly overclocked from the factory I believe to 580 (550?) core clock and 1500 memory, something like that. Nothing else is overclocked.

All my settings except for geometry are on medium. So all medium, geometry high, 1280x1024 85 hertz.

I was getting those numbers on a 64 player Sharqi Map with about 40 people in it. Running around it fluctuated in the 80-90's, and up close down to 50 or so. I may get lower in a closer map like Iron Gator, but have not tried yet.

That is very weird, I've got the following system
AMD 4200+ x2
2 gigs corsair value select
eVGA 7600 GT OC 580 MHz GPU 750 Memory (1500 effective)

I'm running the exact same thing, and fraps says I average about 43FPS with everything on medium, except dynamic lights & shadows, which is running on at low, no AA and AF on Low. With dynamicso ff, I get an average of 57 fps.
I got those numbers from FRAPS.

I've over clocked the card a little bit, wanna see how much of an effect that does.

There is something not right with your rig Laike. You should be able to put your setting up a lot higher than that.

I would think that too. Except I have no clue where to start to figureo ut what to do. I've trimmed down all excessive programs. I['m running insanely slim already. I think theres something wrong with the cpu tbh, it runs weirdly hot. I'm waiting for it to burn out so AMD can rma it...

I discovered that the stupid thing runs better at normal clock speeds then over clocked if you can believe it...

What res are you running at? If it's only 1280x1024, there is no reason why it shouldn't run all high.

It is 1280 by 1024.

I will take a benchmark of everything running at all high.

I'm currently using karkand as my benchmark.

I ran a quick 2 minute run through on karkand, got artied, heavy fire, blah blah blah. Same res, everything, on high. Lighting AA, AF, everything

I have a similar setup to Leagklaf;las, and I think similar framerate.

amd 4200 X2 stock speed
2MB dual channel corsair value select (set CL to 2.5, 1T timing, rest stock)
evga 7600 GT (the 580 MHz core, 1500 MHz memory one)
asrock 939 dual motherboard (the thing i'm worried about)

I get around 6380 in 3dmark05, 3480 in 3dmark06.

With all medium (except for geometry high) and 2xAA, the framerate hangs in the 40's while I'm prancing around Sharqi with stuff going on (64 player server). Its up 70-90ish if nothing's really going on.

Maybe our ram isn't very good.

What Nvidia drivers are the best for BF2 right now? I'm using the 84.56.

What about forceware driver settings? High performance?

Changing "max frames to render ahead" (coolbits) up to 7 made 3dmark06 go up, but I'm not sure what it does to BF2.

I would expect a lot more out of that card. It could be RAM, although i doubt it, your CPU's are fast enough, could be the mobo.. how do other games run?

If i run all high except dynamic lights/dynamic shadows at low, lighting medium, 2xAA, 12xx X 960 resolution, the framerate is 40-85, depending on the map + action. My 3dmark scores seem normal.

If i set most of the stuff on low (except 2xaa, high geometry, high effects), framerate will cap at maximum, and rarely ever go below 60 fps.


I'm wondering about the video drivers i'm using. Or maybe the soundcard/soundcard drivers (audigy 1).

Or maybe I should re-install the game (i think i did the "upgrade" patch, rather than a clean install/patch.)

Or maybe i'm on crack and should shut up and enjoy the game

I did some more testing as well. Granted, I am just using the ingame renderer.drawfps 1 command, so my results are basically from glancing up there every once in awhile. I was on a 64 player Mashtuur City map, with about 40 people in it. 1280x1024 all medium except high geometry, 2xAA. Standing still it was in the 70-90 range depending on what I was looking at. Even in intense firefights I didnt see anything below about 45 fps.

EVGA 7600GT CO

Of course its really hard to compare a lot of this stuff, but I am very happy with the card.
