Open the program, under the motherboard, there should be a chipset option, click on that, what does it say there?

Ok, you have AGP, like I said the 7800gs is the best, and can be had for under $300.

You may want to make sure your PSU is up to the taks though. If you open your computer, on the site of the power supply (has all the wires coming out of it) there should be a sticker that tells the total wattage. You'll want at least 350 watts.

Yeah but I would imagine by the time a 7800GS doesn't cut the mustard for gaming, neither will the new PCI-e PC he would buy to have the "upgrade path"

Seems to me a lot of these guys with graphics card issues aren't extremely tech savvy, and they also look to be on a budget. So while it would be nice to just say "Get a new rig with a 7900GTX" or whatever, I think they're wanting a fast, cost effective fix to their graphical woes. Throwing money at a PC is a quick easy way to get performance, its trying to do it within a budget and existing configuration which is the challenge.
