Help with new videocard...specs in thead!

Hey i know almost NOTHING about computers... i have been searching but couldnt come to a conslusion on a a solid graphics card for my computer. Seeing my specs are different from others. I would like to say uder $300... i just want a graphics card that wont be outdated in the next 6 months... so again thanks for the help!

Specs below , I just copyed them to from the easyinfo in the BF2 folder

I don't see your mobo there but assuming its PCI-E get a 7900GT?

Yea i cant seem to find the specs on ur mobo, we talkin agp or pci-e slot here? If its a pci-e go 7900 gt, it pwns bf2 like it stole something....

Ok, Here Goes...
I'm a new poster here (actually just signed up 5 mins ago due to this problem)
I've read other post but nothing is quite like my situation...

Specs:

HP Pavilion a230n
2800+ AMD Athlon XP Processor (2.08 GHz)
512MB DDR SDRAM
80GB Hard Drive (50GB not Used)
-Just recently upgraded from nVidia Geforce 4MX 64MB onboard Graphics to a GeForce 6600 8x AGP 256MB

I have updated all Drivers and i went into the BIOS and Selected AGP/Onboard (thats the way HP list it) ... my Display driver says it is running the 6600 card which is good... however when i play BF2 i can barely run due to Choppy/Jerkyness. Here's the kicker I'm playing on ALL low and OFF settings with only 50% visibility
I believe that somehow my computer is not allocating enough memory to the Video card and it is only giving the old 64MB instead of the new 256MB and i need to change this.... and in order to do this in the BIOS there should be a place under the Choosing of the video card that says "Video card Memory" or VGA RAM or something.... and its not there!! it goes straight to PS2 -Plug and Play... so i'm not sure of how else to do it...
My other problem / question would be... even though i only have 512MB i should at least be able to play BF2 with a Geforce 6600 AGP on at least all low settings perfectly...

I have no clue what to do...
Please help me ive been searching for the answer for more then 9 hours in two days ... and i'm pulling out my hair


all i want to do is play BF2!!!!

His current card is an FX5500, those did not come in PCI-e, so you assumed wrong.

It's either AGP or PCI. If it's AGP a 7800GS would be your best bet.

How is that any cheaper? You still have to pay the diffrence between the two, it's not a free upgrade.

Ignore that, you would spend a whole heap of money on a marginal speed increase.

What Jimmy may not understand is that not everyone has the means nor desire to upgrade their PC every 2 months. Upgrading your graphics card is your best bet to getting more performance out of you PC for gaming.

AGP is a dying interface, agreed, but you can still play every game out there pretty damn well with a decent level AGP card, and most games in the very near future.

I was thinking towards future upgradibility. What heppens when that 7800gs isn't enough, or he wants more? He will be SOL because he can't get any better than that. In all likelyhood that will be the best AGP card ever. So any money you put into it will be wasted.

lol..well I dont want to upgrade every 2 months, i just want ot at least be able to turn a corner or jump up or lay down or even shoot with out lag... So if you can help me out with figuring out what type of Mother board i have that would be great! I looked in Divice Manager and i found this...ACPI Uniprocessor PC

well i bought my computer for a store who builds computers. So its not really a brand.

Ok, google for a program called Everest Home Edition, it should tell you what interface you have.
