BF2 takes 5 minutes to load a map... why?

Hi all,

I'm in a realy frustrating situation.
BF2 takes 5 minutes to load a map. Is this normal? I mean, I have a powerful
PC and it just makes me crazy. Other than that, it takes 1-2 more minutes
to "complete loading" when it enters the game... after that, it's allll Ok. :evil:

Now, my PC is CLEAN. I mean, AV, spywares, defrag, scandisk, performance
are great. Only this game suffers from lags while loading...

Am I the only one suffering from this? suggestions will be mostly appriciated.

My PC specs:

-AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice
-DFI LanParty Ultra-D
-Corsair 2x512 MB
-Gigabyte ATI X800XL 256MB
-All packed in a cool and vented Thermaltake case...

You only have 1 GB. of RAM.... get 2 GB and you should be fine....

shouldnt take 5 min even with 1 gb of ram.

its prolly the client data verification... cant really do too much to help that out since you already said you keep ur drive clean and defragged.

I had 1 GB in my other computer and it took 4-5 min. to load a map...

Another Gig is not going to help. I had a gig and it never took me that long and i have a very similiar computer. Don't know what to tell you but, did you do a fresh install? If it has been awhile you may give it a try.

i have x800xl 1gig 3.0 hz it takes about 20-40sec.

Also what type of RAM is it? I used to have 1GB of Corsair Value RAM and thats what took 4-5 min. to load a map..... I then upgraded to 2 GB of SuperTalent RAM and it takes about 30-50 sec.

i've got 2 gigs ram and a great system takes me a long time to verify also

No, I know what you are talking about.

I have a amd 3700+
1 gig of patriot ram
6800gs overclocked

And when i first built this (about 2 months ago)
I loaded my maps in about 1 minute.

Ever since the 1.22 patch my load times vary from 2 minutes to 5 minutes and even sometimes after it loads it randomly kicks me.

So dont worry, im pretty sure its just the 1.22 patch. Hopefully it will be better when 1.3 comes out

I have re-installed the the game several times,
OS was changed from XP 32-Bit to 64-Bit (current OS), upgraded,
deleted, replaced drivers - you name it, I did it all.

It's not the 1.22 Patch, I have this from the beggining.
You're talking about 1.21 patch, which was fixed in 1.22.

@RAF92_Warhawk: It might be the Corsair chips, maybe it IS a value ver.,
they came in a reasonable price, which might be suspicious...

For the record - I live in Israel, so my "default" ping is around 100ms avarge.
Is it possible that the "Client Verification" phase taking so long because of this?

You need 2Gb of ram especially if you have a 64 bit OS. Map load times are directly tied to the amount of ram you have regardless of the brand or quality.

Yea, your load times do not really depend on what "brand" the RAM is but getting Corsair XMS series RAM will overall help the game run smoother with less stutter at the beginning. As for the verification process, it is very mysterious.... Some people with lower end systems are capable of verifying faster than people with higher end systems and vice versa....It most likely depends on RAM and Hard Drive, but sometimes other peoples cases prove otherwise...

Corsair XMS will not be any smoother than value ram. There is no difference when it comes to games.

I think verifying is more of a server thing. Some servers I join verification is 2 seconds, others are 2 minutes!

Those 2 second servers are Linux servers, and the long load ones are Windows based.

Verifying client data depends on the server, your hard drive speed, your ram speed, and your internet connection. Running less processes and defragging your hard drive will slightly improve your verifying time.
