not to rain on anyones parade, but these numbers dont lie. According to this, 1gb and 2gb of ram put out same performance.

I would definately recommend getting the 7900gt, as it is one of the best choices out right now, plus you get GRAW. From things ive seen, the 7900gt has over twice the performance increase over the 6600gt.

I looked at the tests they did and I can say it does not match my reality. I have an AMD 3200 with a geforce 6800 (agp) and had 1 gig ram and went to 2 gig's ram. for me I was able to play on high settings without having video stutter after upgrading to 2 gigs. I could get away with no stutter with one gig if I shut down all background processes when I played but with 2 gig's I can just play. was it worth 150 bucks ....? it is deffinitely a luxury not a necessity.

also, how would the load times compare between 2 gigs and a gig of RAM?

I just upgraded to 2Gig, I used to get loads of stuttering when I first joined a server now there is none.

I would definatly recommend going for 2gigs.

            Gerry.

I just checked that memory performance, That chart only shows FPS performance, which tbh is not what is at question here. The reason 2gig is better as im sure someone said is that the textures getloaded into your memory instaed of being loaded to youHDD (slower access times = stuttering)

I think when the map rotates, no when I first join the server, my load times are faster. The difference in load times is not worththe price of the upgrade. I had video stutter and it resolved with 2 gig.

2 gigs of g-skill ddr500 will cost you 147, leaving you with 3 gigs and the ability to possibly run some high settings with zero lag

its a hard question OP because if you get the 7900gt your still going to get crap load times, i say the ram then with the extra money save for the 7900gt, the 128mb 6600gt can run it as good aas the 256mb i have nfi why all the people think "ZOMG it has only 128mb of video memory, WTFBBQ!!!1!!1!!11!!!eleventyone!!!11!" the 6600gt is only designed for 128mb of ram the other 128mb is pretty much useless
