    Fight Night Round 4 Review

Ready to step into the ring with some of the greatest boxers of all time? Our latest review here on Total Gaming Network has staff writer Dairuka Sutain putting up his gloves in EA Sports' highly anticipated boxing game Fight Night Round 4. Here's the intro to the article:
With so many games coming out in such a short amount of time, it feels strange to sift through the avalanche to find a gem hidden among the many stones. Fight Night Round 4 shines through in a manner unheard of in the gaming world as a sequel that far surpasses its predecessors. Fight Night Round 4 is not your usual Fight Night. Round 4 is something more, something superior...something special. Read more...

Outside fighters should open with a jab often.

        ^lol

Good review Dairuka. I was trying to fight the urge to maybe not buy this b/c of other games or a lack of time and I almost broke down yesterday to buy it, but held off. It was b/c I'm busy at the beginning of this week, I'm over budget for this month, and I wanted your review! But I had planned somewhat yesterday and now with this confirmation, it's definitely happening that I will be buying this Thursday night after work since I'm off of work Friday due to the 4th of July being on a Saturday, aka full gameage night Thurs night and Friday with this amazing game! :yay:

I've put in almost forty hours in this game over the past four days. If you have an addictive personality, you should probably wait until you have some free time before picking this game up, otherwise you may find sleep becoming rare.

Oh crap...I do have an addictive personality. (ohno) BUT, I never technically have a lot of free time either. Eff it, I'm going for it! I usually only get 5-6 hrs of sleep b/c I'm busy doing other stuff or for example like last night, I wanted some Fifa after my busy day, so I played from midnight to 1 am and sacrificed my sleep lol. Glad to hear it's so addicting though!

Are you spending all of this time in the Legacy mode? It's pretty much online play, legacy mode, or exhibition fights with the stars right? Or can you do legacy mode with say Tyson or Ali? And for online play, is there an area that separates just choosing a 'star boxer' compared to playing with your created player?

You get to both fight and play as star boxers like Ali in legacy mode.

You can play created characters in "Fight Now" mode.

You can play created characters in Online. I'm not sure if you can play star boxers or not. I never tried to yet.

I looked on YouTube and watched a fight that was online with Sugar Shane Mosley and a created player. Hmm, your created player better be good if people are playing with Tyson, Ali, etc. :S I'd rather use my created player online, but that would take some time to build up I guess.

Manzi...do I have to give it to you? :p I'll have to check what it is tonight. I can't remember if it's straight up JoMaMaz or if I added some numbers to it, maybe JoMaMaz85.

Okay, so I created me, literally with photos, freakin' awesome first off! Made him 86 overall. I then went to Legacy Mode and chose him as a boxer already made (which I think is why I'm so elite right off the bat instead of creating my boxer there and having to build him up).

My question though, I'm knocking the hell out of guys and winning in like 2 rounds, good stuff, but, for the couple rounds, I'm not usually the one getting more numbers to increase my damage/health/stamina recovery, wassup?

I didn't know if it had to do with my boxer style as I chose Textbook and it says in the manual for stat boost Block Strength, Stamina, and Chin. So maybe the 'stat boost' is the stuff overall, not the in between rounds. But where is the list of how to fight like my style wants me to fight? I mean, I have watched enough boxing to kind of know, but I was looking for specifics I guess.

I want to fight within my style, or edit my created character's style even, so that I can maximize my killing.

And...this game is pwnage if you haven't picked it up yet.

You get a base of 12 points each time you sit down. You also get more points based on a number of things.

Accuracy: You get points for hitting your enemy with more than 40%, 50%, 60%, and even 70% of your punches. This is the best way to earn extra points. Just be accurate. Blocked punches don't count.

Evasion: Causing the enemy to hit for below 40% gives you a nice bonus.

Rocking the Opponent: Causing the opponent to act dazed, stunned, or loose legged (With a red health bar) gives you a bonus to poitns.

Knockdowns: You get a 10 point bonus, but your opponent also gets 5 points for getting up.

I don't fully understand the question.

Where did you find all of this out...? :o From playing a lot, specific sites, or the community event? Thanks for the info though! I'm going to go try it out right now.

My question dealt with the creation of a character and choosing their fighting style, then getting a 'stat boost' from fighting within that style. Turn to page 5 in your manual. I get confused on that Boxer Styles deal on the bottom half of the page.

When you go to your corner, there are two small overlays prior to the mini-game showing up. They tell you precisely how many points you've earned for that round.

Most people click right through it without ever noticing.

Your fighting style does more than just give you a stat boost. It determines precisely how fast/slow each different type of punch will be, how powerful/weak each different type of punch will be, as well as where it will land which can help/hurt the ability to pull off a clean hit. There are so many variables that EA Sports added to this game that I can only say you're better off doing a little reading on each different type of boxing style on Wikipedia first before picking the fight style you 'feel' is best for your playing style.

Another major thing I'd suggest is knowing right off the bat what type of fighter you want to be. Inside, Outside, Balanced... your arm length, your height, your fighting style... it'll all matter. If you like to button mash right up against the guy, you should be a short armed inside fighter. If you like to evade attacks, and dance around your opponent, you should be an outside fighter. If you prefer to work on counter attacks primarily I'd say be a balanced fighter.

Being a southpaw also matters because you'll be able to give off your right hook on the weak side of an orthodox fighter. You'll also be able to match/counter jabs with an outside fighter if you're a southpaw/inside fighter. It's also a great way to trip up fast outside fighters, merely by the leg positioning of southpaws vs orthodox fighters.

This is all very complex... but it's just how EA wanted it. They intended to make this game as close to the real world of boxing as humanly possible. They took every aspect and put it in the game.

^^^One of the most helpful comments ever, I'm +repping you sir!

Last night, first match after trying your other tips (not from this just recent post, the one before), I got 85 points at the end of a round, ROFL! I think the highest I had ever gotten before that was like 55 or something, but it's usually 30-40. Woot! :yay:

Here is a Wikipedia link to boxing styles for others reading this, click here.

It took me a lot of trial and error to find the right boxer for my playing style.

I'm a purely balanced fighter. I will dance on the outside when momentum is against me, and body blow on the inside when I'm the one in control. I'll counter-spam if the enemy has the momentum, and lure him into counters whenever I see hes trying to match me blow for blow.

It works great for me. As such I use balanced length, southpaw for the right hook benefit against orthodox fighters (My right hook is my best punch after all), and I put as many points as I could into the right punch, foot work, accuracy and punch speed.
