  • Editorial: Stop Making Fun of My Joystick

    In the latest entry in our editorial series From the Editors' Desks, Dairuka feels that the always irritating fan boys in gaming have to go. Check it out:
    What compels humans to differentiate themselves based on such trivial things such as which next-generation console their parents bought them? Why are so many message boards cluttered with hateful comments between Personal Computer, Wii, PS3 and 360 gamers? Does it really matter if your rattle is shinier, or if it’s louder? Why can’t children just learn to enjoy their damned toys?

    Obviously partial blame can go towards the opposing companies. Much like the Pepsi versus Coke wars, marketing campaigns flood the airwaves in an attempt to get us to buy one brand over another. Worse yet, with business being as shady as it is, these brand names go out of their way to alienate people who chose not to play in their reindeer games by paying exorbitant amounts of money to secure exclusive rights to popular games. Of course, with $59.99 - $89.99 price tags on new games, it’s easy to understand how they manage to pay for this devious enterprise. Who cares about the consumers anyways? Especially ones who are so enthralled by their beloved machine of choice that they’d willfully go onto a message board to spam their unrequited love for (Insert Brand Name Here.) reminding everybody else who didn’t want to spend $200 - $500 on that brand name’s machine, that they’re no where nearly as important or enlightened as they are. After all, these enlightened individuals have access to Halo 10: Master Chief’s new dentures, or Metal Gear Solid 8: Baby Snake’s nursery escape.
