  • Dawn of War II Review

Our latest review here on Total Gaming Network has staff writer Idaeus entering the Warhammer universe in Relic's RTS Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War II. Here's the intro to the article:
I was a big fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe as a kid. Although the collection of expensive plastic figurines wasn’t very entertaining, the universe and literature surrounding the table top game was very intriguing. I really enjoyed Dawn of War and I believe the World War 2 version of the game (Company of Heroes) is one of the best games of all time. So you can imagine my anticipation when Dawn of War 2 dropped down my mailbox.

You all know how it goes next; I move all the plans for the day to some other empty day on my schedule and prepare to play this seemingly awesome game for the next 16 hours. I install the game and immediately bump into my first bad experience with the game. “You need Steam to play this game”. I’ve never felt compelled to get Steam, I’ve never had an incentive to download it and I’ve never needed it. But, this game seems awesome enough so I’ll download it, create an account and fiddle with all that nonsense. Read more...

Pretty good review, its not a bad game, it just feels more casual than the previous DoW and CoH, not what I personally look for in an RTS.

I don't play RTS games, but I'm somewhat familiar with the Warhammer universe and actual board game. After seeing the cool paintable figurines at a local hobby shop/gaming store, one of the guys working there asked me to come in, he set up the board, and we played a small mini-game as a demonstration. Decent fun. Had I been exposed to it in my younger days, it might've been something I got into, as I always enjoyed models and customizing my toys with paint back then.

At any rate, because of that, I read the whole article and enjoyed it. Gave me a good sense of how this game would perform, and what it looks like from the screenies.

Good job, Idaeus, and thanks for taking the time to write it.

I'm glad you appreciated it! I didn't really see this as "taking time to review it" but more like an opportunity which Manzi was kind enough to give to me.
