I think it's because we're such a large forum that they have changed the frequency that the currently active users would change from say every minute to every 5 minutes, and then the forum has to search through every username to see if they are logged on or not, meaning some people will show up online but show as last active about 4 hours ago - because the forum is still looking through the usernames to find out if they are online or not... sorta thing...
