The majority also elected Bush as their president. The Majority has voted kindergarten questions wrong in "Who wants to be a millionaire", the Majority still plays CS1.6 mostly because they cant play any newer ones. There are certain things we can rank, compare, line up, without the vote of majority.
"GOTY" awards are one of those things.
It is perfected, its working, its just expensive. It has a super mileage, extremely low polution rate and it keeps the engine in better shape, and is made of hobos. Its better in every area, but since its not accessible to the main market without sacrificing many of its pros, its not accepted by the SUV driving public (or, since it requires great hardware to be enjoyed at its fullets, yadda yadda).
COD4 is not a hybrid. BF2 is a 1992 Cherokee, and COD4 is a 2002 Focus RS. They arent revolutionary in any way, whatsoever. Fun as fvck in their own ways, with "Cherokee" being fun in more ways than RS, but both of them are the refurbishments of the proven concept. If anything, BF1942 was a sexy, slick hybrid.
Crysis is the future DeLorean to Far Cry.
That I agree with. However, it does far more for us as games in the long run, than COD4 or BF2 will. Proof? BF2 has been out 2 years and even DICE has failed to come up with an improved game. COD4 is fun as fvck but people dont call it a reskinned COD2 for nothing, especially when purely graphically, COD2 isnt dead or old yet. Crysis looks, plays, delivers. It also constructs, puts the player to the test, and is a base for mods with unimaginable potential. You can do anything with that game.
I would want to smack ALL developers who think that differenciating themselves from BF2 is a good thing, as they come up with sh!t.
Not really. Doom was "just" purdy graphix.

As for the X-diesel engine? It's not perfected yet.
Go for the high mileage cars like BF2, or the kooky hybrids like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Crysis is the future DeLorean to Far Cry.
X-Diesel is too far ahead of it's time, and isn't worth using until technology catches up with it, making it both affordable, and efficient at what it does.

Crysis is Doom 3 all over again.
