The greatest game in the world sucks if nobody can play it.

Super-elite graphic games always fail due to the very small niche of rich people willing to spend thousands on their gaming rig. (Doom 3 anyone?)

Game-play is the way to go. Crysis' MP isn't very fun. Enough said.

A great game is one with excellent play, and a wide compatibility range, good graphics (whilst supporting the 95th percentile of gamers).

Crysis fails to do this. It would have been a good game next year IMO.

If youre saying Crysis doesnt run very well, youre mistaken. But were talking about the best of the best, so it would probably be running on experimental X-diesel which isnt really accessible to the "common man". So if something is the best on paper and in practice (visuals, progression, moddability, "new"-ness, et cetera), it should account as best, isnt it so? While the "most popular" choice would be a gas-guzzling SUV that most likely kills all of its passengers while being driven, but is more fun at that.

What Im trying to say is, if weve got a game that is once again has made our understanding and perception of gaming, a broader concept, aswell as packing the potential to deliver awesome mods and games in the future, it should be recognised. Does COD4 offer that? I very much doubt it. Best MP game, no doubt, but only in terms of fun and product quality.

And Super Mario Galaxy was not even mentioned in the Game of the Year. Sad, considering it's the second best rated game of all time.

Umm no, COD4 just doesn't give reason to change,to expand your hardware, to increase your capability..without positive change we wouldn't have things like air bags for our cars,better TV's, Faster broadband for internet etc.. I believe Crytek pushed that and expects hardware/software companies to catch up.

The numbers of players does not mean nothing as most can't play it that either can't afford to upgrade yet, or just wish to stay in the past playing a medium graphical/game play type game such as COD4.

How else do we judge "Best" if not by majority rules?

As for the X-diesel engine? It's not perfected yet. We're not ready to use it. Therefore it's not the best option for people to take. Go for the high mileage cars like BF2, or the kooky hybrids like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. X-Diesel is too far ahead of it's time, and isn't worth using until technology catches up with it, making it both affordable, and efficient at what it does.

Crysis is Doom 3 all over again.

And I agree, Crysis MP is not very fun. (But the SP is amazing!!)

I agree its a good game but the best..naw its maybe the most played since its requirements are very low...but not to turn this into another game vs game thread.. Crysis is by far the Best PC Game.. just alot of people can't play it or don't have the money to upgrade to play it...its a shame.

In a way, saying which game's the best can be subjective, but turning to democracy for the award sounds fair to me; if the majority agrees, then it is the one.

P.S. I do not know much about Crysis, but from what I do know from previews, destructable vegetations is awesome and the editor sounds really cool and fun to mess around with.
