The Coalition forces followed on from their first victory by attacking further into opposition held terrain. The American 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the British 40th Royal Marines pushed further into opposition lines, striking a double blow for the opposition forces. The two divisions had targeted a weak point in the opposition lines where the Iranian forces in the area were composed mainly of reservists.
Fortunately for the Coalition Generals the gamble paid off as the first encounter, in the Wetland region of Zatar, was fought entirely against unprepared units of the 64th infantry divisions reserve units on Wednesday the 7th of November.
The reservists training and weaponry was nothing in comparison to the full might of the American Infantry division and they were forced to withdraw from the region completely once the 24ME began calling in precision air strikes onto their defensive positions. Forced completely away from the area the 64ID dug in heavily along a small river situated a few miles from the wetlands.
However it was while the 64ID was digging in that the Coalition attacked again with the 40th Royal Marines striking rapidly from their amphibious landing craft at 2000EST on the 14th of November. Pushing out from the already established beachhead at Zatar the Royal Marines dug in along the opposite side of the river from the Iranians and began striking the Iranians positions with close air support, provided by the Fleet Air Arms Cobra flights. The accuracy of the combined fire from the inbound cobra attack helicopters and elite marines were too much for the Iranian forces.
Caught off guard by the sudden strike of fresh troops they had no answer for the rampaging British ferocity and began falling back again, this time in good order. The British have taken advantage of the double victory and pushed deep into the northern jungle in an effort to root out the remaining Chinese forces in the region.
