also, dont be afraid to add normal values for your weathering - it really ties the diffuse to the bump nicely and creates a very realistic feel ingame. that and if you dont do the weathering very well it will come up trumps when you bake it :)

best of luck to you all and i cant wait to see more!!!
It may be the lighting in the screenies.......everything down to the seams on the brdms where they are welded are normalmapped.Bf2 does not take kindly to some of the more conventional texturing techniques that ppl are used to,thats why bf2 skins suckaroo............they let the normal maps do the work wich is ok if you have a disk space quota. What if I told you that there are 5 different humvees on the same colormap and all are different? As well as 3 different Brdms on another?
The reasons I do not use the render to texture tool( BAKING)like many other mods do is that,I'll give you a hint.......one vehicle in this mod uses the render to texture technique....try to guess wich one it is...post on our forums and I'll let you know if you are correct.
A I like to hand draw my shadows,
B It takes away your ability to tile if you need to
C When you UV map like I do you will lose resoloution in your skin and that to me is a no no.Some parts are more important than others.

i hear your points and all are valid, but there is nothing saying you cant have good texures AND good normal mapping. I hear what you are saying about using efficiency with your texture files (i know a little about that now too )...

Im not sure how you are using your render to texture, but let me just say what I use it for is not the end result

good luck with the upcoming release guys!

EDIT: oh i almost forgot - great to hear you guys taking measures to cut down on GFX strain! good stuff!

Because the site isn't finished, vehicles was working on the old host, all the news updates are here on TBF2, or here:

              Nice work guys!

I´ll be downloading this mod for sure, just make sure u have a pretty varied and solid product for ur 1st release.
Take ur time and dont rush it out.

If I have to give u some c.critique then its got to be on that huge tent or whatever it is, it could use a few more polys and a more detailed texture. It looks like a flattened out shoe box to tell u the truth.

Maybe you should write a tutorial?

I am willing to bet, from what I have seen in the past, that this mod is what is going to bring me to re-installing BF2 on my machine. Take your time guys. Anon can wait.

Actually, Jimbob writes kick ass tutorials. You would have to come and roam around the DCON site to enjoy them.

Your odd, :p he wasn't being sarcastic. I've been reading Jim's post and was wondering if he had any. He should post some over at www.Pixel2life.com

Im odd? He wasnt being sarcastic? The roll eyes face is one of the more obvious smileys, its intentions are pretty direct. I dont think I misunderstood him at all.

Well I think he should write one. I'd like to see what Jim can do. He sounds like he knows his tools and brushes. You misunderstand he is asking to see what he is talking about. Sure they may be at the Dcon site but I haven't seen Jim say that. Jim link? I'd love to see!

                              Re: US Intervention Mod Update

wow - i tentatively opened this thread expecting an onslaught!!! hehehe I know i am being a little vague - some stuff i can tell, some stuff i cant. And i kinda have to agree with Sysex on the david remark... that emoticon says alot

what sysex is referring to is the stuff i am posting in our private section at the DCON site. As some of you may know I have just started texture work for FH2 and as i am not able to put in the hours for DCON tht i used to I have been endeavouring to pass on as much information as i can in order to get some more of our members into texturing (dont worry Lobo, FH2 secrets will always stay secret :) ). mostly weathering and baking tips... ideally i have been trying to give out user friendly info... as you may well know markhawk, describing texture techniques is one thing, having the person you are trying to teach understand them is something completely different altogether hahahaha

anyhoo at present i am finding it real hard to find time to help others out (my mod time tends to get dedicated to unwrapping and texturing these days)... mostly i will just take a chunk of an older texture file whilst in psd form (with all the layers intact) and i'll add extra hidden layers with info text on each demonstrated feature... seems to get the point across 7 times outta 10.

sorry for putting another whole chunk of text on your thread guys!!!
very keen and intrigued to see how you guys are managing your texture files in regard to memory use!
                              tally ho!!!

I've had a teacher in the past who did this and it worked really well for me. I am a visual learner. Tutorials are great but one on DVD or with examples to interact with are always great.
