  • Community Update - 1/31/06

There is a new community update posted today over at the <a href="http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/home.jsp" target="_blank">Official Battlefield 2</a> website. They have both some good and bad news to share in this update. Here's what they had to say:<blockquote>As I pretty much expected, there is some last minute news to pass along. There’s some good and some not so good news but, hopefully, the good outweighs the not so good.<p>First, I’ll start with the bad news to get it out of the way. We have held onto the 1.2 patch a little longer than we had initially planned. We really felt that it was important to delay the patch and take care of some of the issues that have had the community concerned. This means that it will be released sometime in the next two or three weeks. This, unfortunately, means that the Euro Force Booster Pack will be delayed as well since it relies on the patch. Look for Euro Force to be released in the latter half of February now.<p>Also, another bit of bad news is that the new feature that allows player to pick up deployed mines with the G key is being held back. In the end, we felt it just wasn’t complete enough for public consumption. We at DICE apologize to all of you who were eagerly awaiting this feature.<p>I hope that the reasons for the delays are seen as positive by you, the community, and therefore I list these reasons as the good news portion of this update. The following issues were addressed:<p><ul><li>Being able to pass through walls using a spinning tank turret has been fixed. It has also been addressed on all rotating vehicle positions just to be safe.
<li>The disappearance of tank projectiles and grenade launcher projectiles during online play has been improved and should occur less frequently.
<li>The distance for throwing hand grenades, ammo packs, and health packs has been increased.
<li>The Red/Blue nametag bug has been addressed</ul><p>Regarding the last point, what we have done is make the code more secure to try and prevent any cases where this bug may occur. Since the fix has been in place, we have had no reproduction of the bug in testing. We’re excited about being able to release 1.2 very soon and hope you all are too.</blockquote>Glad to see they are taking a little more time to make a better polished patch. Feel free to post your thoughts on the update.

I guess this means that the patch will address more than was originally planned?

I haven't played this game seriously in a long friekin time. This patch is so overdue it's ridiculous. They're obviously hard at work on more important things otherwise this patch would have been out months ago... Sad to see such a great game suffer from simple problems that need fixing.

OMG NO IT'S DELAYED! Who would have thought? Saw that one coming. :-P

As far a the rest, not too bad I guess. And the picking up mines and stuff with G? How can that not work, you already have a function of picking up weaponry to go on (wrench to mine interactions). I fail to see how that's an "incomplete" feature. Heck, just make it like 1942 and let the wrench pick up C4, and just add claymores to that list, and it's fine.

Red nametag bug huh? I'll believe it's fixed when I see it (or don't see it) in the game. Or, just go back to the BETTER way of labeling the names and go red for China/MEC, and blue for USMC. Or heck, ORANGE for MEC since their colors are green, white, and orange. Easier to code, less troubles, easier to identify teams. Win, win, and win situation.

If the patch takes 2 more weeks to come I can handle it. Actually I am enjoying BF2 again now when the more mature players are still playing on the more serious servers. I am loving it, every minute of it!!!

With the patch I am sure it will be even more fun...

I can't wait for this patch. Thank you EA/DICE and I hope the next patch comes so I can pick up my mines!

they better not let people be able to pick up mines, thats total bs, the engineer kit is already hard enough to use, the mines is like all we got . I saw the delay coming

Only engineers can pick up mines directly, aswell as only snipers with claymores and special forces for C4.

Unless I missed something that is.

They are probably not doing the G pick up thing because the player would be able to pick up the other team's or your team's C4 or Claymores when they aren't looking which will defeat the purpose of them at all. And since they disappear after they die, then it seems that this could be the problem they encountered and the players aren't ready because they are going to abuse it.

IM glad they fixed the wall glitch allowing people in side any building. I havent been able to play karkand in weeks without getting ****ed off. Had to play maps with choppers and stay in the air, leave the ground to the glitchers

tbh the longer they take to fix the problems the better.

Its going to be worth the wait
