There is a new update posted today over at the <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/firststrike/index.php" target="_blank">First Strike</a> mod website. They have some news about the progression and upcoming updates you will see from them. Here's what they had to say:<blockquote>Over the course of the next few weeks and leading up to our first release we will be updating the site regularly with a few interviews and diaries from the Team Members who are currently working on this Modification. Behind the scenes information, sneak previews of work in progress and general information on pushing the boundaries of the BattleField 2 engine to the extreme to create what we are all desiring a Star Wars Mod to end all Mods! We hope you like what we have planned for this MOD so far and if you have any questions for our Team that we can answer for you then drop by our forums. FirstStrike is YOUR Mod as much as ours so we will endeavour to answer all your questions and who knows you may have some answers for us!<p><b>Week1: Jordan "Nusirilo" George:</b> "So, I get the privilege of writing the first dev diary. Hmm, what to write about? First let me tell you a little about me. I’m a 15 year-old Canadian that enjoys long walks on the beaches with a full moon above my head. Ok, at least the first part is true. Anyways, I’m one of the first “First Strike” modelers/modders: joining only a few days after the mod began. Since I had only been modeling for a few months prior to this, I was quite lucky and happy that I got in. Now that I’ve settled within the team, I’ve been able to learn a lot of new techniques, discovered in part what it’s like to make a game, and met a lot of cool people. It’s definitely been a lot of fun “working” on this team."</blockquote><center><a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/gi_sneak.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_gi_sneak.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/gi_sneak2.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_gi_sneak2.jpg"></a></center><br>Nice to hear again from the FS guys and looking forward to future dev diaries. Rofl, they are selling merchandise already :p
Not a bad idea
Anyway, sweet, looking forward to this mod -
Re: First Strike Mod Update
Yea, Icy, throughout my polygon reduction and tweaking I made the arms somewhat too long (or the legs too short, either or). It's no biggie to do a quick scale and change that up, and I definitely will be doing that, since I don't want a man with monkey arms running around the maps
EDIT: I shortened the arms, so the next time you see Mr. Butch Soldier, he won't have monkey arms :)Comment

Re: First Strike Mod Update
Bad if you want to continue making the mod, I guess. I'm guessing LA is a whole lot less likely to grant these fellas a fan license if they're so publicly trying to profit from their work.. but I dunno. Seems like a dumb move.Originally posted by CaseyRofl, they are selling merchandise already :p

Anyway.. the rebel soldier's helmet doesn't really look much like the usual design, does it?Comment

Re: First Strike Mod Update
Well, consider this guys. We could be asking for donations to support things like server costs and whatnot, but instead, we thought that we could attempt to give something back for any money that a person may wish to donate to our mod. Each item only earns us about one dollar, so we're not doing this just to rake in the dough. Additionally, we aren't using anything that is blatantly Star Wars-esque. For example, you don't see any X-Wings or lightsabers on any of our logos. Believe me, we know that Lucas Arts has full rights to anything trademarked Star Wars, and we wouldn't want to overstep our boundaries. Again, we aren't doing this for the money, rather, for people to show their support, and possibly even to raise publicity. Heck, I thought about the idea when it came to my mind that it would be interesting to slap a First Strike bumper sticker on my car for everyone to see.
About the helmet, I attempted to stick as close to the design seen in the movies as possible. There is a little curve in the middle of the helmet that I didn't include, but only to save poly count. If you look closely, you will even see, though, that I included the flap pictured in the image below. The helmet may have to be scaled slightly, since this is only a Work in Progress shot, but other than that, the design is quite close to the original.

Re: First Strike Mod Update
The back end of the helmet goes downward a good amount though, and it also seems to be a bit bigger too. I wouldn't mind a less burly-faced man either :P But hey, I'm not a modeler.
This is one of the mods I'm definitely going to be checking out though, right up there with POE. Can't wait for it.Comment

Re: First Strike Mod Update
I'll still be working on the helmet a slight bit, so don't worry about that :) And for the burliness, that has been commented on many times by myself and other team members, but since we will be using this, most likely, for the heavy weapons class, he won't be too out of place.Comment

Re: First Strike Mod Update
Oh, I can't believe I forgot this, but there are actually pouches of different sizes that are supposed to be around his waist. For some reason, I didn't include them in the render. Look for an updated preview on the forums soon to see the scale of the arms and legs fixed, as well as the added pouches.Comment
