If this were true we would see every NFL Quarterback jumping in the air like a buffoon before he made a long bomb pass.
Have you EVER seen an NFL quarterback....or any quarterback for that matter....or any major league outfielder too, jump into the air to get that "extra meter or 2"?
Your reasoning is sound enough, with the transfer of momentum theory, but in actuality you would lose distance becasue your FEET ARE NOT SET. In order to obtain the maximum throwing distance you must plant your feet and have a steady base. If you would like a physics explanation than consider the torque that is being applied to your body during the mechanics of throwing anything a far distance. if you are in the air the torque created by the motionwould either spin you (if you have more of a side-arm throw) or send you back to the ground in a hurry (if you have the throwing mechanics of Joe Montana or any "mechanically sound" NFL quarterback.
