• Battlefield 1918/2 Mod Update

There is a new update posted today over at the Battlefield 1918/2 mod website. They have a new image to show off as well as some ranking news. Here's what they had to say:
Another little look at our development progress on BF1918/2. Today we present the British Mills Bomb, modelled by Streetveiter and skinned by BlackJack. This compact and easy to throw explosive was the standard hand grenade of the British infantryman in the Great War, so you can expect it to take this role in BF1918/2.
As some of you will already know, DICE has given consent for the development of an Alternative Ranking System for Battlefield 2. Alternative Battlefield 2 Ranking is back on track in development of its free ranking system for BF2.
We have been communicating with Satcom, the Leader of ABR. He had kindly given us a script which will allow our own medals and awards to be given in BF1918/2. Now the legal situation regarding ABR has been clarified, BF1918/2 will support the system to its full extent. It is therefore possible to imagine ranked BF1918/2 servers in the not too distant future. Negotiations regarding the exact sequence of events are already underway.

Nice to see a mod take advantage of this ranking addition. I don't like ranking or stats for mods, let's leave the statwhores to vanilla and make the mods about having fun.

Unfourtuanlly, you are one of the few that share that same view. That is why mods are adding in this system. And that is also why currect mini-mod releases are not as played as expected, because people still want to earn ub3r 1337 ranks.

if the mods have medals & ranks thats alright, you will have fun anyway.

+ you can see who is an idiot and who is a better and more serious player.

The way the stats work now is that the more you play the better your stats (e.g. the higher your rank). They hardly reflect how competent you are, they reflect how much playtime you have.

I think that if a mod is good enough than ranking and stats are not necessary at all, people play mods because they expand or improve on the original game or give a totally new experience. BF1918 was one of the best mods for BF1942 and I'm sure alot of people will still play it without a ranking system.
