Im giving my money to Iraqi Red Cresent to try and help those tenths of tousands of children in Iraq that are starving and dying and are beeing killed as a direct result of the war.

Anyways. Americas Military budget for ONE year is MORE THAN 400 BILLION dollars. Spend it on peace one year and the next year you have all the money you want for disaster relief.

I want to thank everyone here who is doing what they can to help. I live in the New Orleans area and I along with my family have lost everything. My house is about 10 to 12 feet under water right now and from what i understand, only the roof is sticking out. I consider myself lucky because i evacuated and have the basic necessities. Its good to see so many people showing concern for others.

If I were thinking of making a donation to the American Red Cross in order to help the victims of Katrina, I would first take a look at this ::

The fact that many don't have the resource to evacuate is purely bullsh1t. I'm actually very angry of how the gov't reacted to the situation. Here in Puerto Rico we've been through so many hurricanes, and yet we have the decensie to evacuate all of those who need to be evacuated , even if it means the whole 4 million in this island, and even if our own neighboors have to pay for each others evac. Sadly they handled the situation very wrong, not for get those people stealing and shooting each other for worthless material posetions... I'm ashamed on what they are doing. I hope they learn some respect and start helping each other.

God bless all of them, and I know reliefe will be bestowed on all of them soon.

LOL USA spending billions and billions for wars based on lies, and now the USA red cross asks for money when something happens in their own country.Ask your government for money...

Last i checked the Governments money was ours, and it is in use with the national guard, water, food, but extra helps. We cant sacrafice out entire spending budget to save just 1 city. Regaurdless of if its under water or not, and the local state government should have a reliefe fun, maybe if we diddnt help those Tsunami victims wed have more for our own country. I guess thats what we get for being nice to the world. =)

And i dont blame the looters, most of those people diddnt have anything to begin with, and when everything was taken from them they deserve to loot. hell why let the water destroy the product we might as well use it. And wal- Mart can always afford to lose more afterall they hardley give back to local communities.

Most average people in the USA are considerate and caring people and i'm impressed by your actions to help those poor people in N.O by raising funds, donating money and collecting clothes, shoes and other neady items.

As all Americans are aware N.O was renound for it's poverty and also home to a huge population of black people. American history has taught us that feelings towards black people were generally negative throughout the white population and were basically regarded as subserviant to the white people. This mentality still exists within the USA amongst some white people today, who are quick to stereo-type black people with violence and crime. In a situation of having already lived a hard, under privaliged life into an even bigger game of life or death. Be you black, white or any other creed, colour or race, you will do what you must in order to survive. The instincts of survival are very strong in us all in the sense that we would go to extraordinary lengths to survive, even if that means killing a fellow HumanBeing.

It's sick when you here people say 'well good ridence' or 'that'll save us some money' or 'the place was a sh*t-hole anyway'. Obviously a comment from a white person with the mentality I have just described. These are most likely the same people so willing to quickly jump up to defend the government against any comments which suggest any wrong doings in any way, shape or form. I don't want to turn this into a political or anti-US arguement, but I think that all these comments should be addressed and raised in any public arena, aslong as they are written with a little thought and inteligence and not just throwing words about in slanging match kind of way.

We live in an era like none other before in the sense that we have a connection with eachother on a worldwide scale, litrally at our fingertips. Information/news that has been delivered to us before now was limited in comparison to today. It only takes an interest in one topic such as Katrina or 9/11, for example, to gather information on the matter from all areas, down to individuals giving a 'I was there, I know what i'm talking about' statement on accounts of what they witnessed themselves. It is then you see a different picture of what is going off in the world today, particually America.

Why is it considered by most that the administration in power today is a completely innocent party and can not possibly be one that is only interested in themselves, with their own 'personal agenda' ?

Why is not possible to think hang on, maybe those guys really don't give a sh*t for a bunch of people in N.O because they are both black and poor ?

Please people from the USA, do your homework, ask the questions you don't really want hear, face the possiblity you could have a very corrupt government with an agenda that will affect the stability and peace within this very world you love, want to see your kids grow up in and live. Please let's talk about these things in a considerate and respectful manner given the significance and scale of such a tragic disaster, be it natural or not. These are unique times for us all to speak openly and personaly with eachother. We may all actually learn something from eachother, us the non government related people of the world, us the ones who have to answer for our governments actions and live by their rules or else, us the generally intelligent people who can interact with eachother as a commmunity of respectful, thoughtful and caring people; us the MAJORITY.

I am not from America and nor am I black. I am white and from the UK and I am concerned.

Feel free to delete this post Moderators. All I can say is that this thread has a lot of peoples feelings in it for what has happened and in it's own small kind of way could help raise peoples awareness to such a significant subject. I feel people may have some constructive things to say if you find your work in keeping peoples tensions down, but allowing people to say what they must regarding all Katrina related issues and not just deleting posts that aren't specifically about relief awareness or contain a negative comment.

If you do decide to leave this post within this thread, then I must thankyou for allowing such a contraversial post to stay, which was written in a careful, considerate, but honest way.

Good read but im about sick of hearing the Race thing brought up like so many other things.The mayor of NO is Black..90% of the population is black.The fact of the matter is..they were warned and told to leave..i see cars in the streets of NO..where are the drivers? Lootin? Dead? Scared?

They had the oppritunity to leave..now they claim Bush responsible for the hurricane..Sayin "the government flooded NO purposely" Gimme a freakin break.If you were that stupid enough to stay then i feel no sympathy (except for the children).They had plenty of time to leave and get their **** together before the storm hit.Werent they told to go the superdome anyway?

Then it boils down to "RACE".Just because they were black and poor doesnt mean ****.Their humans..they play a role in america just as any rich "WHITE" person will..oh and dont forget we are a nation of Many races.It seems everytime something happens anywhere with a black person..the play the race card..OMG IM BLACK AND YOUR GONNA TAKE ME TO JAIL CAUSE SOMEONE SAID I ROBBED THEM.. I remember awhile back a bill that got shot down so fast is was unbelivable..Some black congress man actually tried to pass a law to where every white person had to give a percentage of their pay to the Black race.Why you ask..because of what happened in the old days..im 25 ..i could care less what happened before i was born.And you not gettin my hard earned Dollars.
