The thing that’s annoying us here in Scotland is we have one of the best disaster relief teams and able to organize Medical supplies and Aid and we did great work with the Tsunami and guess what happened We got told we were not needed…..

So I dare say there’s a few of us here with the “well stuff them attitude”, and by the news reports it looks embarrassing for the US, looks like nothing is being done to any great effect or organized.

The Scale is not like that of last Decembers but if a country offers you help you accept it.

In reply to those that believe we dont support our own people. The Navy's red cross ship, that costs billions to run is being moved to the gulf. So no, our government is not helping. 11,000 national guardsmen are currently on state duty in the effected areas. 1 and a half million MRE's have been sent and are being distributed throughout the area. Several military MP's are patroling to stop looting, along with the possibility of hundreds of troops being deployed, a large number of troops is rare to happen in natural disasters. More and more rescue helicopters from the military are being flown around to rescue people from their roofs and remote area's. So no, our government isnt doing anything. An aircraft carrier and other naval vessels are being used for helicopter landings. Along with the billions of dollars that congress is passing. So tell me, how is our government idle on this disaster? You all must not be able to imagine how difficult it is to rescue thousands from a flooded area, where the oh so very smart people get trapped in their attics, where you cant see them to rescue them. Plus things that people in our country are doing to help. So shut up about our government not doing anything, cause were doing a lot more then any other country could do for themselves.

Yes your government has woken up; the Military machine will no doubt get up to speed.

But considering there was three days prior warning of possible disaster the initial response for a country of the Size of the USA was well ridiculously poor.

But considering there was three days prior warning of possible disaster the initial response for a country of the Size of the USA was well ridiculously poor.

Yes. Poor planning that alot of dumbasses didn't leave New ORleans when they had the chance... Now the people that really couldn't leave; those in hospitals, are stuck without care because a bunch of make-shift gangs are shooting at the relief help.. New ORleans was a crap city in the past, and this could be God's way of relieveing the USA of dead weight..

Don't forget, the state of LA. has to send in a request for aid to the federal government.

I listened to Ray Nagin, the Mayor of NEw Orleans, he cussed and blamed everyone else for the problems in New ORleans; at this point i lost almost all my sympathy for his/thier situation; except for those stuck in hospitals, who honestly had no way to leave the city before the hurricane..

Well, when you see a category 5 hurricane stomping towards your house, you prepare for the worst, don't you?
You make sure you have emergency relief in place just outside the projected path of the storm ready to be flown in once the weather allows...

This is, however, not the time to play the blame game but the time to go to work and solve the problem. The why and who to blame will come afterwards.

The rest of the western world is on standby, ready to move in with all sorts of emergency aid, they're just waiting for an official request by the US government....
Sweden for instance is packing a hercules with 2 watertreatment plants, enough to provide 15000 people with 7 litres of fresh water per day... Not much in the scheme of things unless you happen to be one of those 15000 people.....

I don't believe in God or in prayers as such but my thoughts are with the people who suffer from this disaster.

Don't you just love how the people on here that talk sh1t about America never list their own location? Cowards. Hell, have a pair, toss your address up on your profile. We'll see how big and bad you are when you don't have anonymitiy.

It's amazing that these idiots tell us to send money to Africa and call us selfish when no nation in the world donates more money to Africa than we do. Actually, our government donates more money to Africa than any government and our private donate more money to Africa than any other nation's private charities do. In fact, we've given money and manpower to help in damn near every natural disaster globally. What more would you have us do?

Where is the rest of the world when we suffer a natural disaster? Celebrating in the streets... That's fine. We'll survive on our own charity and hard work. Just don't come calling when the sh1t hits the fan in your sh1tstain of a country.

To those offering your support and kind words, thank you. We appreciate it more than you may realize.

1) I'm Manu, live in Belgium, and I am really really sad for what is going on there :cry: . But I am even more angry about the fact that bush spends so mutch more money on weapons and wars but forgets to do the things that are needed to prevent these things (allthough he was warned). He doesn't even feel real simpaty for the people in need. This shows the stupidity of the president (who even got re-elected )

2) The EU helps allot more to people in need than the US. An example of this was the tsunami: the EU initialy gave 10 times more money than the US, but due to the fact that the US didn't want to loose its face it made a similar offer (and this even excludes the private offers, witch were even higher). So don't try tell me that 'allmighty' US spends allot on charity because, in comparison to the money it spends on wars, it sux.

This is one of those natural disasters that nobody really expects because many of us have never been through a storm of this magnitude. It's just too hard to comprehend...you can only imagine it.

Normally, a hurricane passes and the water normally drains off soon afterward. In this case, however, the roads are still filling with water days after the storm! For a relief worker it's a never ending burden you can't workaround unless you have a boat or a helicopter.

On top of that...

1. Power is out
2. Phones are out
3. Cell phones don't work (towers rely on electricity)
4. Drinking water is out or contaminated
5. Food is rotten
6. People can't commicate
7. The levy breaks after the hurricane
8. People can't swim
9. People are starving to death

The list continues. One thing is for sure. The state, local & federal emergency workers are absolutely not equipped enough to operate normally in a flooded city that continues to fill.

They will have to rewrite the textbooks for this one.

awww.. I dont think that red cross site has paypal. Other wise I would of donated $20 bucks but. I'm 14 so I dont have a credit caard or anything so paypal was my only hope :cry: . I'm glad my parents donated tho

Donating money is a very good way to show support to our country. But my advice to all those donating, think twice before donating to the Red Cross. They tried to hold the money for themselves during the 9-11 incident.
