    Modding Rules Clarification

EA has released a statement today addressing some confusion the community has had regarding mod content. Listen up:
There's been some confusion in the Battlefield modding community about what DICE allows when it comes to modifying our games. You'll all be glad to hear that the answer is fairly straight forward:

    - You can only use Battlefield 2142 content in Battlefield 2142 and the same applies for Battlefield 2. This includes maps, sounds, models and so on. So for example putting the Battlefield 2 map Zatar Wetlands into Battlefield 2142 would run counter to this rule. Recreating a map "inspired" by Zatar Wetlands in Battlefield 2142 would be fine as long as all the models, textures and terrain are new or use Battlefield 2142 assets.

    - Booster and expansion content should stay within those confines. You cannot use content from booster or expansion packs in mods or custom maps. This includes game modes, models, maps. So for example you would not be allowed to create a standard Battlefield 2142 map with the Assault Lines game mode and the Hachimoto or a Battlefield 2 map with the Su-25.

Part of the reason for this is that the vehicles and game modes have only been tested in the game or booster they were designed for. We hope that clears things up and look forward to seeing more excellent maps and mods from the Battlefield modding community.

You can find this original announcement right here.

Yeah, all I have to say to that is, no :P

All there trying to do is restrict content, which makes sense in the respect "you didn't pay for it, so you don't get to play with it". This game and BF2 are on the very brink of death with lag of true support for expanded content. If they can't sell there boosters without trying to pump us for more money and then say you can only use these extremely fun toys on this one or three maps because if we put them into the old maps there would be no reason to buy the boosters in the first place. Well EA/DICE, sorry to spoil your fun, but there is no reason to buy your boosters anymore, let us put the vehicles into other maps. Its not that they were untested, that would be the grapple/zip in Karkand. Its because you still want ppl to buy the boosters to use the fun toys, which just isn't gonna happen.

The argument they are making above is void for this very reason, modded maps are unranked (this is not taking my translated reason here into accout).

Hey, they have a rating thing in the upper right hand corner of the article. Please use this to express how you feel about this, I have already (-1).

                -4.

And what about booster pack content that came with patches. I have a BF2 mod with each army having SF unlocks and EF guns in addition to to tier 1 unlock guns. Do I have to delete that now since I never bought EF?

This is kinda funny cause I know a guy who argued with Dice and was ready to go to court over having the NS vehicles in normal or custom 2142 maps cause the vehicles were in a public free patch and that shut them up. And then Dice left him alone.

Wait so if I paid for the expansions and boosters, I can only mod thier content to thier respective games? That is BS. It is like putting a cookie in front of starving people, and telling them that they can only eat it if they weren't starving. PFFFFFFT. GET GAPED EA.

Oh yes, because we know EA really needs to protect their hard-earned money because times are tight. God forbid little Jimmy gets to drive a Hachimoto without paying $10 for the privilege. Those evil modders are making the game buggy!

This just gives me motivation to break these rules. Dice has constantly lied to us about the editor. They tried to shut down the Unlocks Mod. BF2142 modding support has been nonexistent. This is yet another kick in the balls to the people who helped the original Battlefield games rise to the top. I see no reason to listen to their stupid demands...as shadowx8001 said, they can't do anything about it anyways because this is completely unreasonable and stupid.

                              Hello,

                              Thankyou for contacting EA support.

You can use any content from the Battlefield franchise when you mod or make maps. As long as you are not making a profit from these maps.

                              Take care,

Hi i am trying to clear up a hazy subject with regards to use of the BF Mod editor.
My question is about making levels for BF2142. Would i be allowed to use content from the other BF series games such as special forces. then send the finished level to EA to ask permission to use. EA's guidlines for their modding tool is very unsure and whilst i enjoy modding your BF series games do not want to go against your wishes for what content i can play with. I wanted to create a BF2142 level by importing a night time level from BF special forces. Would there be a problem with me doing this as long as i send the finished level to you to decide on how i can use this. ie, for multiplay use or single player only.
Look forward to your reply and will abide by your decision.
LETS SEE THE KEY POINT EA SAID IN THE EMAIL:
