First Strike Dev Diary #17 - Magus

There is a new dev diary posted today over at the First Strike mod website featuring John "Magus" Mansir. Here's what he had to say:
My name’s John Mansir but round these parts they call me magus. I’m 18 and I live near London, and back in March I joined the First Strike team as a coder. I’ve just finished school and hopefully I’ll be going to university in a few months to study physics. I started modding nearly 4 years ago by joining the Battlefield 40000 team for battlefield 1942. It’s been an awesome journey and I’m really glad to have ended up here at First Strike. My job on the team now mostly involves coding vehicles and annoying Woodrow.

I know coding can be boring and you usually don’t hear much about it but I figure there must be at least one person out there who’s interested in how we code vehicles! To that end in this dev diary I’ll show you how we created the B wing starfighter. Don’t worry, I won’t subject you to big boring chunks of code, there will be lots of pretty pictures along the way!

It's the BF2 editor, they're just gimping along with it until DICE releases the official BF2142 editor (like that will ever happen, NOT).

Not sure about adding all this space combat to the mod, I'm more into the first person shooter aspect not X-Wing vs Tie Fighter recreation. If it isn't as good as the old X-Wing games then people will mass exit the server when a space map comes up in rotation.

No they won't. You must have never played GC. Space combat in a Battlefield game? Epic. Space maps will be among the most popular.

the space maps are Extremely awesome, and VERY reminiscent of XvT.

But we do have ground maps also :P

That's good to hear, I'm just thinking of when the UT2004 "Troopers" mod tried to add space combat, it looked cool but the gameplay was pretty bad.

I only played GC a little bit, early beta release I think.
