  • John Romero Finds id and Bethesda Merger "Disgusting"

John Romero, a co-founder of id Software back in 1991 and current employee at Slipgate Ironworks, doesn't seem too thrilled with the recent id acquisition.

His Twitter page contained a very short and very to the point comment on how he feels about Zenimax and id Software becoming one.
    ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting.

This was followed up with a slightly more elaborate, "Fallout 3 bought DOOM. Wow." To say the least, Romero doesn't seem to applaud the move as much as the rest of the gaming world.

After leaving Midway in 2005, Romero has been working at Slipgate Ironworks on an unannounced MMO project. We would like to believe the MMO is based on Daikatana and his hopes of making everyone his bitch will actually come to fruition this time.

Meanwhile, Activision offers up a hearty congratulations to id Software. id has long gone to Activision to act as publisher on most of its recent titles.
"Activision and id Software have enjoyed a valued and long-standing history together," the company said in a brief statement to me this afternoon. "We are excited to continue our partnership this summer with the launch of id Software’s Wolfenstein. We congratulate id and wish them well on their new endeavors."

Opposite ends of the spectrum if ever there were.
