The first solid details for Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 are starting to be revealed. The latest issue of Game Informer, soon to hit news stands everywhere, has a cover story on the sequel to one of the hottest selling titles of 2008.
A user at GiantBomb decided to share the wealth with the rest of the gaming public and in doing so revealed a ton of great information.
As G4 summarizes, there are a ton of details to share but a few in particular really stand out from the magazine's story.
The environments are said to pack in a great deal of destructible set pieces, environments can be massive in scale, the multiplayer options will give much greater control to the user, and promises a single-player experience that is comparable in length to the first Modern Warfare. A "live patching system" will also be in place for the multiplayer to avoid having to download large, full patches for the game just to fix minor issues.
As for the infinitely spawning enemies that plagued the Call of Duty franchise from the start? The development team says that they didn't like it either and hope to completely eliminate that sort of thing from Modern Warfare 2.

There are quite a bit of details to process, but some of the ones that stuck out to me were: Special Forces co-op mode (think the "Mile High Club" epilogue from COD 4), customizable weapons for enemies (I hate fair!), climbing ice walls (Come on!), snowmobile shootouts and escapes (My joy tears are frozen to my face), and journeying across desert landscapes and clearing enemies out of caves (So...dry...and...awesome). Needless to say, the heart of the little girl that lives inside me just skipped several beats and then exploded.
The other intriguing tidbit is that MW2 is said to feature more “open-ended” gameplay. Given how Infinity Ward has meticulously refined their funneling approach to gameplay up to this point in the franchise, it will be interesting to see how they handle going open-ended.
