If you believed that "ArmA" stood for "Armed Assault" then you should prepare yourself for some bad news. According to Bohemia Interactive, ArmA is apparently a Latin phrase meaning "defensive arms, shields, soldiers or weapons of war amongst others." Huh, who knew?
As if your mind wasn't blown yet by that revelation, here are two new screenshots from ArmA II.
The European release for ArmA II is slated for June 26 on the PC. A North American release date has not yet been announced, nor has a release date for the console versions of the title.
"[When naming the title] it felt like almost everyone preferred something along the lines of Battleshock Operation Force 3: Thunderstorm Troops over a simple and strong word, with a strong foundation behind it," says ArmA II project leader Marek Spanel. "Choosing the right name had been a big deal for us."
Bohemia eventually settled on Arma, which is in fact from the Latin, meaning "defensive arms, shields, soldiers or weapons of war amongst others." Yes, it's the age-old trick of exchanging several vague words for one vague word in a dead language.
