  • NPD Sales Figures for March - Resident Evil Dominates while Chinatown Wars...

The sales figures for March were released today by the NPD research group. There are a few surprises on the list, mainly the notable absence of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars in the top ten list of sales.

What shouldn't come as any surprise is the fact that combined sales of Resident Evil 5 have already surpassed 1.5 million units, with the Xbox 360 version leading the charge.
    01. Resident Evil 5 (X360) - 938,000
    02. Pokemon Platinum (DS) - 805,000
    03. Halo Wars (X360) - 639,000
    04. Resident Evil 5 (PS3) - 585,000
    05. Wii Fit (Wii) - 541,000
    06. MLB 09: The Show (PS3) - 305,000
    07. Killzone 2 (PS3) - 296,000
    08. Wii Play (Wii) - 281,000
    09. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 278,000
    10. MLB 2K9 (X360) - 205,000

Total sales for March amounted to $792.83 million which, according to Kotaku, is a 17% decrease from March of 2008.

With GTA: Chinatown Wars not even appearing in the tenth position, it does seem quite likely that industry analysis Michael Pachter was wrong, and that Jesse Divnich was more on the mark. Divnich estimated that Chinatown Wars sold only about 200,000 units, while Pachter estimated a more favorable forecast of 450,000 units.
