The recently announced Recon expansion for Halo 3 will be released as a Standalone DVD release. This means that the expansion will not require Halo 3 in order to play.
In case you missed it, Recon tells the tale of a USNC soldier in the events prior to those in Halo 3. The prequel expansion will come with all new multiplayer maps and will be released next Fall.
