Counter-Strike 1.6 BETA Available, Adds Steam Community Features

Update: The BETA has been updated once more to correct an error with the engine not updating. Running hldsupdatetool again will nab this update. Also, be sure to install the BETA to a new directory.

There is a new BETA available for Counter-Strike 1.6. The BETA opt-in is only for server operators, but it adds some very interesting features into Counter-Strike (no, not more ads).
Integrated Steam Community features into Counter-Strike

    • In-game player name now automatically uses player's Steam Community

      name

    • Avatars are displayed on the scoreboard

      Other fixes

    • Prevented some cvar exploits (thanks to AnAkIn for pointing them out)
Remember that this update is for Counter-Strike 1.6 and not for Counter-Strike: Source. Server operators can opt-in to the BETA by running hldsupdatetool for "cstrike_beta".

Separate notes for the Linux Dedicated Server can be found after the break![break="special notes for linux DS operators"]
The change of interest on the Linux side is we moved the compiler version forward significantly (to 4.2.4) for some of the binaries we compile so I would like to get coverage on the assorted OS installs you guys run (I am looking at your FreeBSD people).

This update should also siginifcantly reduce the "invalid ticket" style errors, but make sure your server can connect to Steam properly on startup. You should see "Connection to Steam servers successful" in your console on startup.

    You can ignore the:

(S_API FAIL) SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient.

    Continuing with current version anyway.

console message you see on startup, that is disabled by design right now.
Working...
