Fallout 3 - 40K Lines of Dialogue, Slavery, Drugs

Ah yes, Fallout 3 is fast approaching (as fast as an unannounced fourth quarter of 2008 release date can approach) and as such new information is constantly trickling out. The second fan interview with Bethesda Softworks was released just yesterday. Here are a few of the quick facts revealed in the answers.

    • Topics such as slavery, drugs, addiction, and children will be present in the game

    • You cannot kill children. Attacking them will cause them to run away and alert the adults in the area, who then turn hostile towards you

    • You cannot "kill" mission critical NPC's, only render them unconscious, just as it was in Oblivion

    • Most non-human characters are hostile. Most, not all.

    • Over 40,000 lines of dialogue are in the game already (compared to just a few thousand in Fallout 1)

    • Armor will consist of two parts: Body and head. Various accessories can be worn as well. Armor will have various stat bonuses.

    • Inventory will use a weight-based system. Ammo will not have a weight associated with it and the Pip-Boy will auto-categorize your inventory

    • A level editor may come later as a free download for the PC version

    • Dungeons are common, though the definition of "dungeon" in this game refers to "any structure of size, an office building, destroyed factory, school, hospital, [etc.]"

    • Fast travel to places you've discovered makes a return from Oblivion

    • Allowed to have one companion in addition to "Dogmeat" (your dog)

    • Limited weather effects (cloud cover mainly)
You can read the full interview at the Bethesda forums.

The 40,000 lines is interesting, but does anyone know how many there were in Oblvion. One of the biggest gripes with the game was not enough variation in speech, I ma curious to see by how much the raised that.
