    BioShock "Shouldn't Have Worked"

Jason Minkoff, developer for Blue Omega and designer of the upcoming shooter Damnation, stated that there was "no frigging way BioShock should have ended up being successful."

Really Jason? Tell us how you really feel.
Take BioShock: no frigging way that thing should have actually worked out. Fantastic game, awesome design, and beautiful artwork, but the thing is a damn underwater Steampunk 1930s combo thing. How should that ever have done well?

But it's a damn good game. They just put their hearts into it and happened to hit the mark. And that's what we're trying to do.
It seems as though he's not a huge fan of the underwater Steampunk setting but he does applaud 2K for pulling it off and creating a "damn good game." I'm scratching my head a bit at that too, don't worry.

Damnation started out as a modification for Unreal Tournament 2004. It's been labeled as a "shooter gone vertical" and is slated for release later this year. You can find more information in the way or previews from Eurogamer and IGN.

darn only UT 2004, too bad maybe they'll upgrade to UT3 engine and make it all pretty. But UT2004 engine still just as good, I need new games and soon for that matter.

I think he's saying that the game should've failed since the design went against what's popular in FPS's, like the modern combat war games and Halo's for example.

No, I completely agree with him in a sense.

It took me awhile to pick up Bioshock. The whole "building under-water" shooter, not to mention the 1930s weapons, really did not appeal to me. At first I really didn't like it at all.

That was then.. soon after I picked it up, and oh man, to jump right to the conclusion - epic game.
