PvP in Fortress Forever

The 1UP special, Player vs Player, takes a stab at Fortress Forever. Fortress Forever being the Source mod of Team Fortress Classic that a third party team created.

Rory: I wonder who still doubts the wisdom of Valve's decision to ax certain TFC mechanics in Team Fortress 2. The Medic's power to infect enemy players, for instance, sounds fine until you spawn into what looks (and sounds) like a Fortress Forever STD clinic. If the sputtering of infected players doesn't convince you, the dozen cluster frags blowing up outside your base should.



Shawn: Conspiracy theory: Valve dropped this to justify its TF2 design decisions. Joking aside, this is a win-win season for Fortress fans. When you want something closer to the classic, complete with trick jumping and split-millisecond timing, you have FF.

Just think of this article as one of our own Counter-Points only with a lot less rizzuh involvement.

FF was fun before TF2 came out. But I already played TFC for years, and I don't think it really compares to the overall fun of TF2.

Any time you resurrect an old game, you're going to find those who want it just as they remembered, and those who want a fresh look at similar ideas. I could name dozens of franchises where the sequel had to address these exact issues.



Anyway, I'm an achievement/quest/stat whore at heart, and I'm almost finished unlocking my Ãœbersaw so... it's TFC for me. :P Glad the FF team is filling the niche for those who enjoy the classic style, though.
