    Steam Controller a Possible Reality

Remember how, in an interview with IGN, Doug Lombardi mentioned how they were toying with the possibility of a Steam controller? That was a pretty crazy idea wasn't it? Well, think again bub!

Novint Technologies and Valve are teaming up to add Novint Falcon controller support to a number of Valve’s games.
The Novint Falcon is an entirely new type of interface for PC gaming. Essentially a small robot, the Falcon lets players feel high-fidelity three-dimensional touch in enabled games.

Under the agreement, a new update will be distributed through Steam adding Novint Falcon compatibility for customers of The Orange Box, Counter-Strike: Source, the Half-Life 2 series (including Half-Life 2, Episode One, and Episode Two), Team Fortress 2, Portal and the highly anticipated Left 4 Dead. Using the Falcon, players feel realistic game actions, objects, environments and force feedback. In First Person Shooter (FPS) games, users feel weapon recoil, enemy attacks, vehicle movement, and interactions with the environment. A special Falcon Orange Box bundle is planned for later this year. Novint will also soon release its must have Pistol Grip accessory, which replaces the standard Falcon grip to create an even more immersive FPS gaming experience.

The Novint site is currently taking pre-orders for the Orange Box Falcon bundle (complete with Falcon-enabled OB titles, a black Falcon, and pistol grip) which is due out later this year. The bundle will retail for a cool $189.99. The Falcon itself (comes with a few different grips, and a small sports game demo among other accessories) is currently being sold at a number of retailers for $189.99.

You can find more information on the Falcon at the product page at Novint, or via the press release.

No, considering the aforementioned Steam controller didn't exist in the first place, this is as close to having a "Steam controller" as you'll probably get.

I've never seen this controller before, I wonder if it works as advertised. Anyone have one, or used one?

I've used it before at GDC San Francisco. They had a prototype gun controller mount too. It was pretty cool.

just seems too gimmicky, the demo video they have on the site wasn't impressive...now if they had a video playing TF2 or Portal i'll take another look.

Having used this product before, this is a pretty sweet deal, and I feel as though it is the next step to further immerse users into FPS games. I can't wait!

The Steam controller will not be some sort of new fps aiming device. Hence this is not the steam controller.

I don't really see how you can top the mouse+kb combo unless we control the pointer with our eyeballs or something.
